You can tell that my chicks are loved and handle daily, even a loud baby can’t wake up this Sun basking beauty. I want my clients to have the best chicks to add to their family ❤️ #babychicks#losgatos at Los Gatos, California

I was scrolling through my camera roll and I have some pretty bad spring fever 😫 I’m ready for baby animals and for the plants to come back!! Everything is so brown and dead right now. It’s not pretty to look at. Spring is coming soon! 🌸
Our baby chicks arrived last week and are getting bigger every day. We’ve had a few die, which is a little unusual, so we’re working hard to make sure the rest stay healthy and strong.
We’re cooking up egg yolk to add to their feed, supplementing one waterer with probiotics and electrolytes, and just sanitized their entire brooder to eliminate any potential pathogens.
During these first few weeks it’s critical to monitor temperature, so we have a thermometer under the lights to ensure a consistent temperature in the brooder.
We also contacted our hatchery about the losses and they have been very accommodating about sending new chicks to replace those we’ve lost along with providing additional tips. Maintaining a good relationship with your hatchery is important!

Mondays are not my favorite recently 🤦♀️ 😭. I am almost a quarter away from finishing school and that fond feeling of senioritis has overtaken me.
So to bring a little spring in my step and hopefully to brighten your day ☀️, I am sharing a Liberian chicken family portrait taken by the lovely @Claire.phillips_. As I shared in my last chick pick, I love them so much and sometimes, I just need an endearing reason to keep fighting climate change.
What are some ways you stay inspired and motivated to help our planet 🌎?

I guess the chickies were looking bold this morning because after Shagbelly left for work at 5:30 I immediately started hearing the chick alarm-peeps coming from the living room. I found Linda- of course- outside the brooder next to a little tealight cup I filled with wood ash. I had been sprinkling it in their brooder and she apparently wasn’t satisfied, the little sneak! I picked her up and noted that she hadn’t pooped on the rug and went back to bed. Later after actually getting up for the day I went to the brooder to check the chicks and Emmylou flew straight to the edge from their little snack box house. She perched there all fluffed up and proud of herself. Linda took notes and jumped wings flapping from the box to the edge of the box...and straight into my lap. I figured she wanted to check stuff out and she hitched a ride on my shoulder around the house. She’s kinda bossy and I need a shower so here’s our walk back to her brooder 😂 she loves checking stuff out and after the hour long snuggle nap we had yesterday I’m pretty sure she thinks I’m her pet. If you didn’t already realize animal behavior and how they relate to us is a fascination of mine. #obsessed#training#mommachicken#templegrandonismyhero#babychicks at San Diego, California
