A Kangaroo Island weather station............or a Rosenburg's Goanna up a pole?
Seriously though, currently listed as a threatened species on the mainland of Australia, Kangaroo Island is a stronghold, and where longterm research is conducted.
They are found in heath, open forest, sand dunes, coastal areas and woodland, and utilise termite mounds for nesting purposes, laying up to 14 eggs. They are KI’s largest native predator, feeding on roadkill, birds, eggs, small mammals, many invertebrates and other reptiles, and can live at least 30 years.
Important to know...... they are generally very curious, so are not afraid to approach you.
