Atlanta Film Festival Review: American Animals (2018) --- American Animals (2018) is written and directed by Bart Layton and tells the story of the 2004 Transylvania University book heist, where four students attempted to steal a collection of rare books from the university libraries restricted section. The resulting film is a part documentary and part narrative story about the heist from the perspective of the four thieves. - American Animals (2018) made headlines earlier this year when it was purchased at the Sundance Film Festival by MoviePass Ventures which is the sister company to the somewhat controversial movie subscription service MoviePass. American Animals is the first film to be purchased by MoviePass Ventures in a surprise twist for the company that many were questioning if it would be able to stay afloat. - I will admit, I know very little of the true story of the "Transy Book Heist," but the film presents the story in a comedic fashion with the four thieves being a balance of smart yet childishly immature. After spotting the rare books while on a library tour at his university, Spencer (Barry Keoghan), enlists the help of his buddy Warren (Evan Peters), for an atrociously planned heist to rob the library of some of its rare books. One book of which is enormous and requires two people to carry it. Oh, and did I mention... --- You can read the full review on the FilmFed.com blog (See link in bio). Atlanta Film Festival Review: Tully (2018) --- From director Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody comes Tully (2018), a film that follows Marlo (Charlize Theron), a married mother of two with a third child on the way. When we first meet Marlo, she is pregnant with her third child, and you can tell she is already struggling in her day to day life. Not only is she in the third trimester of pregnancy with her third child, but she is also struggling to keep up with her other two children, one of which has special needs. As the birth of the third child nears, Marlo finds out that her wealthy brother (played by Mark Duplass) has gifted her a night nanny as a baby gift. A night nanny is someone who comes in and stays up with the baby at night, so mom and dad can get some sleep. Marlo is a little weirded out by the concept of having a stranger in her house while she sleeps, so she politely declines. After the baby arrives, Marlo struggles more and more, and after a bit, she decides to give in and calls the night nanny, Tully (Mackenzie Davis). Shortly after Tully arrives, Marlo begins to see the benefits of having a night nanny; her stress level is decreasing and as a result, her day to day life is improving. She is not only thankful for everything Tully does for her family but also begins to form a friendship with Tully who it turns out she has a lot in common with. - Tully (2018) is the film I was most excited to see at this years Atlanta Film Festival. Not only is it directed by one of my favorite directors, Jason Reitman, but it is also written by Diablo Cody who is best known for her outstanding debut film, Juno (2007). As if that weren't enough, Reitman also tosses in the exceptional on-screen talent that is Charlize Theron, Mackenzie Davis, Mark Duplass, and Ron Livingston. While the talent both behind and in front of the camera was enough to draw me into the film, what intrigued me even more, was... --- You can read the full review on the FilmFed.com blog (See link in bio). Atlanta Film Festival Review: Lean On Pete (2018) --- Based on the novel by Willy Vlautin, Lean on Pete (2018), tells the story of 15-year-old Charlie (Charlie Plummer). When we first meet Charlie, he is your typical teen; he likes to jog, play football, and watch TV. Charlie lives in a run-down home with his somewhat caring but partially childish father (Travis Fimmel). To help his father, Charlie decides to pick up a job doing odds and ends for Del (Steve Buscemi), a washed-up racing horse handler, who he meets while exploring a rundown house race track in his new hometown. While working for Del, Charlie begins to form a bond with an older horse named Lean On Pete. - After tragedy strikes, Charlie finds himself without a home and sleeping in the horse stables with Lean On Pete. One day, Del decides he is going to sell the past his prime horse that Charlie has become attached too. Before Del can sell Lean on Pete, Charlie decides that he is going to steal Del's truck and Lean On Pete and try to make his way across the mid-west to... --- You can read the full review on the FilmFed.com blog (See link in bio).
