I've posted before about how I've been approaching my practice in a very deep and personal and inwardly way. I stopped trying to bend my body into postures just to prove that I could, and I just focused on the very basics of yoga; but even this has been proven to be a challenge. While #Childspose isn't particularly challenging for me, and it does feel like a resting pose, my butt just won't touch my feet when I sit back. This is a pose that I'm sure most of us practice every day in some point of our time on the mat. So I've come to accept that even though I practice it often, my body isn't made to sink comfortably into this pose (and quite a few others for that matter) which doesn't mean I can't get the benefits from its practice. It's a great hips, thighs, and ankles stretch. It calms the brain and helps relieve stress and fatigue. And you can stack a couple of pillows under your torso and BOOM! Even more of a rest. My point is, as I've said before and forever will preach out loud: EVERY BODY IS DIFFERENT AND YOGA SHOULD NEVER FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE. "Un peito es el espíritu de un poroto que se va al cielo" 🙏😊... . 😅 Un poco de humor para tratar un tema bastante común que nos toca vivir en la sala de yoga, cómo practicantes o como instructores/instructoras de hatha yoga. . Es muy normal! Incluso es sano! Es parte de los procesos fisiológicos del cuerpo humano, y a veces nos hace reír y relajarnos un poco más, o no? No hay de que avergonzarse queridxs. 🤗 . Cuando practicamos posturas dentro de la clase de hatha yoga, es normal que al mover el cuerpo, nuestras vísceras se "estrujen" un poquito y que se libere algún gas, pero es bueno. Es parte de lo que tu cuerpo necesita dejar ir. 😌 . Que se puede hacer si pasa? Simplemente continúa practicando como si nada hubiera pasado, nosotros como guías de tu práctica, sabremos respetar tu silencio, y si ya hay confianza con tu grupo, seguro que juntos nos reímos un rato. Para los demás, es una buena oportunidad para practicar pratyahara (retraer los sentidos) 😁 . Cómo prevenirlo? No siempre será posible, pero dejar pasar al menos dos horas después de comer, antes de ir a tu práctica, te ayudará a evitarlo. Y si pasa, pues no es para tanto. . Si la situación es más seria, y te sientes mal de la panza; avísale a tu instructora o instructor, para que pueda facilitarte algunas modificaciones que te den alivio. . Esperamos no ofender a nadie. . I normally just add an inspirational quote with my posts, but today I feel like sharing some things going on in my personal life. . So far, 2019 has thrown some curve balls at me. S T R E S S has been taking a toll on my well-being, leaving me with physical, emotional, and spiritual blockages. Stress can manifest in the body in many different ways. Right now, I’ve been noticing a lot of inflammation in my body related to stress. I’ve been experiencing Intersticial Cystitis or IC which is inflammation in the bladder. This feels like a kidney infection but is not actually an infection. Turns out some of the food I like to eat and even coffee/tea can trigger a flare up but most importantly - STRESS. I’ve been ignoring the other physical signs of stress (my body has been trying to warn me but I refused to listen). My eye has been twitching randomly, I’ve broken out in bumps on my chest and the back of my legs from inflammation, headaches, canker sores... the list goes on. . For some of you this may be TMI... So why am I sharing all this with you? Because I think it’s important to talk about. . I’m a yoga instructor and know all about self-care, but when life gets overwhelming, I have a tendency to keep pushing forward instead of slowing down and allowing my mind-body-spirit the time it needs to heal. . All I could do was laugh yesterday when the doctor told me that all of my physical symptoms have been caused by stress. I laughed because I couldn’t believe I allowed it to get this bad. This is a reminder for me to fill my cup before pouring into others. A lesson I need to learn the hard way I guess 😅. . Self Care is so important for everyone. Day 2 of #YogaBodyMoves2 . Tomorrow we are focusing on the hips, and in particular the gluteus maximus / Iliopsoas muscle pairing in a heart opening #fallentrianglepose. In this posture we are going to engage the glutes to lift the hips, and access a stretch across the front of the hip and the iliopsoas muscle (we would also have felt this yesterday in our lunge postures). In January I booked on to a yoga course and a week later I was in India. After a couple of nights sleeping with rats in my room and a run in with a cockroach I considered quitting. But then I met my beautiful roomie @katievincent711 who saved me from the rat room, allowing me to sleep and be fully present! I'm so glad I followed my instincts and fate lead me to this amazing group of people. Over 3 weeks I learnt, laughed and became stronger mentally and physically than I thought was possible. ❄️(Modified) #WimHofMethod @iceman_hof Breathing Technique❄️⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Hands down, of all the meditation techniques I’ve learned so far, this one has definitely got to be the most effective and efficient way of blasting you straight into “No-mind”.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Directions:⁣⁣⁣⁣ -Inhale deeper than you exhale 30x⁣⁣⁣⁣ -On the 30th round, exhale all of your air and hold⁣⁣⁣⁣ -Swallow your tongue to “seal” the air in⁣⁣⁣⁣ -Comfortably hold for as long as you can⁣⁣⁣⁣ -When you’re ready, exhale a tiny bit more, then inhale as much as you can and hold⁣⁣⁣⁣ -Swallow your tongue once again to “seal” the air in⁣⁣⁣⁣ -Exhale, then repeat the steps 3 more times…⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ You may notice that (on each of the holds) the mind has a hard time attaching to a specific thought for very long. On top of this, you’ll find yourself holding for longer and longer periods of time as your blood becomes oxygenated and carries oxygen throughout your entire body without you having to breathe! My personal record? 3 minutes, 36 seconds… give it a shot and see how long you can last!
