My first restaurant commission.
Before this project, I had no experience of commissioning art for someone.
One of our previous clients who loved indian food told me about a restaurant owner who was in the middle of a renovation, and was looking for bespoke art. She had mentioned my work to him and he was interested.
In the first meeting, I made some sketches, suggested colours and generally tried my best to meet his requirements.
I was scared by the fact that he needed five 60cm x 60cm paintings within a month.
I only had experience of oils and they take six months to dry completely and varnish. I had to find a different way to finish this commission. I went home and began researching for faster ways to complete art. I watched YouTube videos and read few articles about art. Finally, I came across acrylic paints. They dried in a matter of minutes. I experimented with colours, made few templates and showed the client. He was happy with the template. I was able to complete all five works of art and deliver them within a month. The client was overjoyed...Acrylic paints had saved the day! That's how I learnt to use acrylics.
