...“Pardon me Mel, I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation.” The sisters looked up to find a tall middle aged white man in a dark blue three piece suit, carrying a tray of drinks in one hand, pulling out his AirPods with another. Lisa didn’t recognize him at all, but could tell by his appearance and his demeanor that he was someone important. He gave off an air of confidence she recognized as similar to that of the most important account managers in her office. She felt her heartbeat quicken and wondered why she was suddenly so uncomfortable.
Mel knew the man immediately. It was Marshal Caldwell, one of the head principles in her office. He seldom spoke to her, even though she was an analyst on his team. When she did hear him speak, it was usually to berate one of her teammates. She was surprised he even knew her name. She felt her heartbeat quicken, and knew exactly why she was suddenly so uncomfortable.
“I didn’t know about your predicament,” Mr. Caldwell said, looking at her with piercing grey eyes. “You should have told someone in the office. I like to think of myself as a small-time developer of sorts, in my spare time of course,” he smirked. “Maybe I can help.”
