I have never been a fan of idol anime.
I also have never been a fan of zombie shows in general except a few like The Walking Dead.
So what happens when you combine idols and zombie into an anime?
Well you get this show, Zombieland Saga, which I'll be reviewing now!
Zombieland Saga is a parody show. Keep that in mind.
The comedy was simple but taken to absurdly high levels. Tae being Tae always cracked me up.
The structuring of the musical performances were also weird as this show has screaming contests to rap battles to finally, idol performances. All those types of performances being showcased were refreshing.
There was some development I'd say for half the cast and they were well written for the most part, although it did feel rushed and repetitive as well.
There are minor issues here and there but the constant tone switching from comedy to music to serious drama between Franchouchou was handled well.
Tae is best girl. She was so AWESOME!
Kotaro was so AWESOME too!
Rest were pretty decent.
Good chemistry overall.
The regular 2D animation looked quirky, with cute character designs for the zombie idols.
And the OP visuals looked absolutely fantastic and so cool.
But the CG in those dance scenes looked like shit. It may be parodying Love Live! with the CG but even so, I still couldn't enjoy that.
Mamoru Miyano. God bless this fucking man.
He delivered such a phenomenal performance as the nonsensical Kotaro, by just going as nuts with the script as possible!
I don't like idol songs in general, but the songs here were pretty solid.
And the opening song was sick too. Complements the visuals well, especially with the sound effects.
I never expected to like an idol show like this. Ever.
But from Kotaro to the comedy in general, I had a blast. This was tons of fun and except one episode, I was always engaged.
Overall, Zombieland Saga was really damn good.
