A beautiful book stack! - C Reposted from @readonrepeat - October has been a busy month and with the mountain of books I've bought I had to redo my shelf to fit them in. I actually got to reading half of these books which I am super happy about. QOTD: What has been your favourite book purchase this month? I just finished Kingdom of Ash. The ampersand is over two thousand years old. It was made by joining together the two letters of the Latin word et, which means ‘and’. When the ampersand began to be used, scholars explained that the symbol was a complete word per se. Soon, ‘and per se’ became ampersand. at Sydney, Australia

Happy Sunday! I’ve been trying to post earlier in the day... not working so far, I’ve had a lazy Sunday🙈 When do you try and post? . ⁉️QOTD Tell me about your current read in emojis! . BOOK REVIEW. . The Vegetarian by Han Kan is something I’ve been meaning to read for ages as it won the international @manbookerprizes a while back and has been recommended to me quite a bit. . It really wasn’t what I expected. . It’s an incredibly dark book telling the story of Yeong-hye’s descent into mental illness. Or is it? That’s what is interesting. It can also be read as one woman’s quiet rebellion against the expectations of her culture. Neither is incorrect. The writing is sparse which fits so perfectly with the tone. It’s actually a very difficult book to describe. It’s almost a novella, divided into three sections. . Each section is from a different person’s POV: her husband, her brother in law, and her sister. We never get to see what is happening in her head, which is both clever and frustrating. No explanation, just showing the results of her actions. . She has always been unremarkable and well behaved as a wife in Korea is expected to be. This changes when Yeong-hye begins to have terrible dreams and decides that not eating meat is the answer. . To our culture, it is baffling this is viewed as madness (her later actions less so) but her husband and father are both incensed. Their stifling of her was dark and repulsive. . After the first section, it takes a different turn - I don’t want to give too much away. But this is a truly intriguing and atmospheric book. It’s a short read and I would certainly recommend it. . . This is my ‘two word title’ for #fnwreadchallenge. . . . . #hrkingofscars book you wish was longer #bamjanuary19 book under 200 pages #ampersand2018 review #readgushjan19 Green - look at all the greens 🥬😂 #theunknownfilesjanuary new to me before I read her! #candleloversjan19 & #bibliowivesjan19 lazy Sunday #lionesssongjan The great mother: controlling character (husband, father) #bookreadhappyhour shit escalates . #thevegetarian #bookreview #bookrecommendation #bookish #bookstagram #booklover #manbookerprize #readreadread

⁉️QOTD What series do you want to reread right now? (OR OMG, how did @veschwab leave us on such a cliffhanger?! 😳) . . ‼️Well, I wanna read book one of this again! 😱 But I also really want to reread The Hunger Games... it’s been too long. . Happy #socksunday guys! Did you know I was wearing these socks anyway (our house is so cold and these are mega thick) so the fact they go with the book is completely unintentional? 😂 . (As is the fact that there is terrible lighting so we’ll gloss over that...) . Okay. So I liked ADSOM but I didn’t think it was AMAZING. Which is why it’s taken me so long to get round to this. . Wow. MISTAKE! This book was so brilliant - I loved it from start to finish, every horrible and evil bit included... I need the third one now 😳 Seriously, who is cooler than Lila? Can I be her when I grow up? (As well as an author of course 😉) . It’s weird because middle books are often the weakest. What do you think? . . . . . . . This is my book involving a prince for #fnwreadchallenge 😊 . . And it’s Sturmhound/thieves for @gwenmitchellauthor #gmbingochallenge 🗡 . Also for #imperfectlyperfectjan19 I tried to NOT be perfect with those photo. It’s not the best, but there it is 🤷‍♀️ it feels uncomfortable posting it but I’m doing it anyway! 💪 . . #bamjanuary19 #ampersand2018 #theunknownfilesjanuary #janshelfawareness #fearyournoveljanuary - sock Sunday! #2019fwseriespick - getting through the series! #jaguarsushi2019 it’s a hard knock life for us 🤣 #bookishadventuresjan19 lose siblings (I know Rhy and Kell aren’t related but they’re still brothers) . . #adsom #veschwab #bookish #readersofinstagram #bookish #booksaremylife #bookdragon #mybookishfeatures #bookishfeature #bookstagram #readerslife #fantasyreads #redlondon

QOTD: What’s your favorite contemporary? . One of my reading goals this year is to read out of my comfort zone. So basically I wanna read more contemporary because there is no way I’ll be reading less fantasy/sci-fi/crime. -- I just realized how much I rely on routines to get stuff done. Now that my typical routine has flown out of the window since I’m on break I’ve been wasting so much time because I don’t know what to do with myself. 😅 . ……………………….. . #ampersand2018 [standalone] #allthebooksjan19 [that ending!] #janinbooks19 [genre you hope to read more] . . #thefaultinourstars #tfios #johngreen #yacontemporary #bookstagram #YA #yanovels #bookaholic #booknerd #bookishpost #bookgirl #reading #bibliophile #bookworm #booknerd #bookish #bookblogger #bookphotography #yabooks #igreader #bookstagrammer

Hello bookdragons!📚✨ Welcome to the new year! I don’t know what your goals are for 2019 but I’m hoping to get better at making pictures and bringing you good posts. So bear with me as I explore new filters and journey into the land of aesthetically pleasing themes😜 I’m so ready to start my reading goal for this year which consists of reading 100 books. I usually reach this goal but every time I get super nervous😅 But it’s about remembering to enjoy reading instead of rushing to finish. Sadly, o don’t know what the word slow means and most books will be finished in a day or two😁 What are the books you want to read this year? Mine would be: ✨“The Wicked King” ✨”The Storm Crow” ✨”Darkdawn” ✨”King of Scars” ✨”Bloodwitch” I’m planning on continuing my poem book which is almost finished but I don’t think I’ll have it ready by the end of the year. Guess I’ll just have to see were the road takes me🤷🏼‍♀️ Now, I have some left over New Years food to eat but I hope you enjoyed today’s post😊 . . Have a fantastic day and keep on reading bookdragons!📚✨ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #janinbooks19 #bookish #stacksaturday #books #mapmonday #book #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #decinbooks18 #allthebooksjan19 #fearyournoveldecember #bookreadhappyhour #bookishcandles #bookishfeatures #bookstawarriorsdec18 #fangirlingindecember #wildadventuresjan19 #bluelovesbookishdec18 #imperfectlyperfectdec18 #bookstababesdec18 #janbookstagram19 #bibliowivesdec18 #ampersand2018 #booksof2018 #happynewyear2018 #fearyournoveljanuary

QOTD: What’s (going to be) your first read this year? . I’m planning on reading #TheCruelPrince first so I’m ready to read THE WICKED KING as soon as it comes out next week. It’s been more than a year since I last read THE CRUEL PRINCE so I definitely need to refresh my memory. 😆 . What I should really be reading first though is LITTLE WHITE LIES by Jennifer Lynn Barnes since I already told everyone I finished it yesterday… but I didn’t. I failed to squeeze it in 2018 so I probably should rectify that asap. 😅 -- Yesterday I was thinking about how #bookstagram probably isn’t the best habit for a hoarder to have since it kinda of encourages keeping things (and buying new stuff) instead of clearing them out. A prime example is this Happy New Year thing I got in Vegas last year which sat collecting dust until I pulled it out to use for this photo. 🤦🏻‍♀️ . ……………………….. . #ampersand2018 [tbr] #allthebooksjan19 #janbookstagram19 #janinbooks19 #fearyournoveljanuary #rfabjan19 [january tbr] . . #hollyblack #YA #thenovl #yanovels #bookaholic #book #reading #currentlyreading #bibliophile #bookworm #booknerd #bookblogger #bookish #readingtime #bookphotography #yabooks #bookaholic #bookstagrammer #read #bookstagramfeature

2018, you have been a rockstar year for me personally, but you surprised me in reading. This was the year I gave audiobooks an earnest try, and I really love them. Here are my favorite books I read this year, in no particular order. Give The Dark My Love surprised me. I didn't think I'd have a fantasy on my list. Binge by Tyler Oakley is hilarious. Love and Other Train Wrecks was a meet cute on a train and insanity ensues. More Happy Than Not was mind bending and heart wrenching. Perks of Being A Wallflower threw me and made me reminisce on my college days. Dread Nation was powerful, funny, and unique. HP and the Goblet of Fire is my favorite HP movie so I loved reading everything in this one. The Hunger Games audiobook is excellently told. Amy and Roger's Epic Detour made me tear up and laugh out loud. Sadie on audiobook was moving. . Thank you again to 2018 for being a really great year for me. . . ⭐️🌟🎇🌟⭐️ “Tomorrow, is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one.” ― Brad Paisley ⭐️🌟🎇🌟⭐️ . This year has flown by… each day is almost a blur… life does move so fast… anyone else think so? 🌟 Let's talk the top reads of the year today! Here are my tops (granted, I have a ton of books I adored this year, and they are all on Goodreads, so if you want to more, follow me on Goodreads, the link is in my profile) 1️⃣ This Savage Song & Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab began 2018 for me with high expectations, and these two still top my list 2️⃣ Everless by Sara Holland might have been the biggest unexpected joy of the year for me 3️⃣ Renegades & Archenemies by Marissa Meyer reminded me that she needs to be an auto-buy for me 4️⃣ The Wish Granter by CJ Redwine continued to show me how spectacular characters can be 5️⃣ Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young stood out as a gem of a stand alone (which I have decided is a lost art among YA authors) 🎆 QOTD: What books topped your list this year? 🌟 #readgushChristmas Top reads of the year #bestof2018 ⭐️ | #ampersand2018 accomplished - I managed to read 131 books, which equaled 50k+ pages 🌟 | #bookreadhappyhour wrap up: December books read: 📖 Muse of Nightmares ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📖 ACOTAR (reread) 🎧The Light Between Worlds ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📖 ACOMAF (reread) 📖 Archenemies ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📖 The Language of Thorns ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📖 Finding Baba Yaga ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🎧 Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🎧 Thirteen Reasons Why ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🎧 One Dark Throne ⭐️ (DNF)

Hello readers!💖✨ It’s the end of the year and the beginning of 2k19! To wrap up this year I’ll share my favorite books😊 I loved all the books this year but sharing all the books would take up too much of the photo and a lot more of my writing space. These 8 stories were my absolute favorite and worth mentioning. So let’s get started! “Seafire”: Best all girl pirate group ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Skyward”: just space. Starships. Robots. And rich boys. And more space⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟 “The Cruel Prince”: Who doesn’t love a good and bloody faerie story? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟 “A Reaper at the Gates”: this year’s most heart shattering book💔⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “This Cruel Design”: mind blowing🤯, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “The Silence of the Girls”: harsh but truthful. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟 “QOAAD”: a lot of pages and pain🖤. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “The Devil’s Thief”: badass and historical. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Not shown in my post is “The Land I Lost” which was my favorite audiobook from Cassandra Clare this year❤️ I can’t believe I read so much this year! On another note 2018 was not my best year. A lot of depression and world problems kept me feeling down, but I will try harder and I hope you are all satisfied with how the year is ending. I wish you a magical day!💖✨ . . . . . . . . . . . . . #skyward #areaperatthegates #queenofairanddarkness #bookish #stacksaturday #books #mapmonday #book #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #decinbooks18 #allthebooksdec18 #fearyournoveldecember #bookreadhappyhour #bookishcandles #bookishfeatures #bookstawarriorsdec18 #fangirlingindecember #wildadventuresdec #bluelovesbookishdec18 #imperfectlyperfectdec18 #bookstababesdec18 #decbookstagram18 #bibliowivesdec18 #tinylovedecember18 #ampersand2018 #booksof2018 #happynewyear2018

QOTD: How do you celebrate the new year? . I usually just celebrate it by reflecting on the past year and making new resolutions. And watching the ball drop at midnight, of course! This year, I’m planning to have dinner and catch up with some old friends. Basically, get a head start on one of my new resolutions - get better at maintaining friendships! 😀 . 2018 was a pretty good year, reading-wise, for me. Well, except for April and November when I didn’t read any books. December was also kinda disappointing too! I was hoping I’d get to read more since I’m now on break but there’s just so many errands to run and do. 😅 . Still, I somehow managed to somehow surpass my (very low) goal of 26 books by reading 47 instead. And I read a lot of books written by new-to-me authors, as well as hit my goal of reading more 2018 releases. . The genres I read were a bit disappointing, though. I love fantasy and crime books - it’s pretty obvious by my reading behavior. But I really wanted to branch out and read out of my comfort zone, which obviously did not happen. Only 8.5% of the books I read were outside my favorite genres. Guess I know what I need to work on for next year. 😆 . ……………………….. . #ampersand2018 [accomplish] #allthebooksdec18 [december wrap up] #bookstagramtogetherdec [december #wrapup] #decinbooks18 #fearyournoveldecember #rfabdecember18 . . #bookstagram #bookish #bulletjournal #bujo #bookblogger #novel #passionplanner #youngadult #booktracker #booksofinstagram #bibliophile #bujoinspo

I read 60 books in 2018! Here are about half of them. Have you read any of them, and if so, what did you think of them? 😍 I have two book related goals for 2019. The first one is to read 52 books, one for each week, as ny brother suggested. It could get hard, although I read 60 this year, I felt accomplished enough by having read 25 books in 2017. My second bookish goal is to only buy books that have lgbtq representation. Sometimes I will read books without it, for example from my tall stacks of unread books or because of a bookclub read. If I need a book that I don't already have and that doesn't have lgbtq rep, I'll have to search the libraries. 😍 Happy new year! 💕 Challenges Dec 31st: #ouryearinbooks18 - wrap-up and goals 🌠 Wrap-up 31st: #fearyournoveldecember #decshelfie18 #fangirlingindecember #bookstababesdec18 #clutteredpagesnutcracker #myreadinghighlightyear2018 #bookishdec18 #wildadventuresdec #allthebooksdec18 #fourofbooksdec18 #deckthereads Other: #ampersand2018 - accomplish 📚 #disneyreadsdecember18 - new beginnings 🌟 #dickensdecember - resolutions 🌠 #pagesofcheer - #readinggoals 2019 📚 #ohmybookmaschallenge - #happy2019 🎉 #lifelovereaddec18 - #reading #resolution 📚 #bookstabeastdec18 - free day 🌟 #inspireddecember - reflect 🌠 #bookstagram

“I believe in living life the way that you want to live it every day, and if you do that, you don't really need to have New Year's resolutions.” — Tom Ford ✶ Okay, let’s talk traditions. Normally, P+P is the first book I read on 1/1, but I just might be straying from that. I don’t know what I’m going to read and I’m excited about it. 2019 is going to be all about requesting less and reading more of what I want. ✶ For your consideration, I give you the last photo with this background. I’ve been using this board since 2016 and bought something new yesterday. I’m still not 100% sure about it, but I’m jumping in regardless. ✶ #decbookstagram18: happy NYE #ampersand2018: accomplish #fearyournoveldecember #allthebooksdec18 #decinbooks18: wrap up ——————— What are your bookish goals for 2019? ——————— { #PrideAndPrejudice #JaneAusten #hellostacee #vscobooks #booksandtea #cupinframe #booksandteacups #flatlaytoday #bookaesthetic #booksbooksbooks #whiteinframe #readmore #bookphotography #readersofinstagram #prettybooks #ipreview #booksandminimalism}

Happy New Year’s Eve! Well, I read 99 books this year, but it was hard to choose my top 12. I didn’t read many books that I liked. Still, I’m glad I made progress reading three series: Anne of Green Gables, Harry Potter, and The Lord of the Rings. I’m also glad I read more from Victor Hugo, Margaret Atwood, and Daphne du Maurier. Let’s just hope next year will be better... 📖 Was 2018 a good reading year for you? 📖 In no particular order: . Row 1 from L-R: Anne of Avonlea by L. M. Montgomery; The Fellowship of the Ring by J. R. R. Tolkien; Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling; Circe by Madeline Miller . Row 2 from L-R: Useless Magic by Florence Welch; Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier; Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood; The Last Day of a Condemned Man by Victor Hugo . Row 3 from L-R: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas; A Treacherous Curse by Deanna Raybourn; Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi; I’d Rather Be Reading by Anne Bogel 📖 #bookqueensdec18 #bookishholidays18 #fearyournoveldecember #decinbooks18 #bluelovesbookishdec18 #readgushchristmas Best of 2018 #ampersand2018 Accomplish 📖 . . . . . #tashasbookshelf #canadalovesbooks #bookishcanadians #booksandflowers #tashasflowers #bookreview #bookrecomendation #readingwrapup #2018readingwrapup #2018inreview #favouritebooks at Canada

So, another year almost over... . ⁉️Are you doing anything to celebrate New Year? (Or already celebrated for my Australian friends and everyone else ahead) . I’m not going out - maybe it’s because I’ve been on the naughty list 😂 This fun pouch was from @bookfulness and made by @giftingmoon . And since I’m having a night in, might as well treat myself to a bath 🛁 Also from @bookfulness - the box to treat yourself! Use ARWEN10 to get a discount on your next box 😊😊 . Last day being a rep for Jess @nightlightcandle - thank you so much for having me sweetie! . If you’re anything like me and find New Year difficult, remember you’re not alone. My inbox is open. Looking back on a year can be difficult - I get that. Try and think of at least one positive thing you’ve accomplished. And check my stories 😊 I’m thankful for every one of you for being with me here at the end. 🤗 . Enough seriousness, for a second QOTD if you want to: . ⁉️Who do you think would be on the naughty list?😉 . AOTD I’m going with Rhysand: it can’t be legal to be that hot 😂 . ‘Nothing is sweeter, but that which is scarce.’  HAPPY HOGMANAY! I have been on so many adventures this year, both literal and literary. I went to visit some amazing projects in Malawi (Elephants!!) and I romped across the continent with Monty, Percy and Felicity! I’ve made so many new friends. I’ve laughed more this year than any other year in my life. Of course there have been major lows and mega highs but whatever, here’s to another year of being silly, neglecting adult responsibilities, being creative and discovering amazing books!  I have so many favourite reads from 2018. Way too many for one picture. I read 230+ books this year. It would be impossible to pick favourites; every book I love gives me something a little bit different and I tend to like more books than I don’t like, soooo... I thought I knew what I was going into with the Red Rising series and I was so happy to be proven wrong, absolutely genius! Laini Taylor blew me away with Strange the Dreamer and Muse of Nightmares. Holly Black is the Queen of Faerie for a reason and I love that she wrote a book where every character is power hungry and awful, but for some weird reason you root for them (?) Also, The Wicked King was such a great sequel! I fell hard for Cressworth’s macabre brand of flirting, as well as the lovable rapscallion, Henry Montague, and his devotion to darling Percy. And, if Naomi Novik could keep writing those heartbreakingly relevant fairy tale retellings, I’d be eternally grateful! There are so many more books I want to mention but this is already turning into an essay. Shout outs to every book I’ve already featured on this page and all the ones I haven’t!  C H A L L E N G E S ♛ #bamdecember18 - Fav books of 2018 ♛ #imperfectlyperfectdec18 - Wrap up ♛ #decinbooks18 - Wrap up ♛ #bookstawarriorsdec18 - Wrap up ♛ #wildadventuresdec - Wrap up ♛ #bookstababesdec18 - Wrap up ♛ #ampersand2018 - Accomplish ♛ #bookqueensdec18 - 2018 wrap up of best reads ♛ #grimdragon - “I’m glad you are here with me. december 31 ; #wrapup and #NewYearsEve It's the last day of 2018! I tell you what right, this year has felt weird... here is a little sum up - ; I've had three different roles all within the same company ; My parents came to visit me ; I went to visit my parents ; I read 42 books ; and a lot of other things happening... but I can't remember right now. But I feel like this year has actually gone quite slow... certain months felt shorter than others but overall, it has been a long year. December particularly has felt like it took forever. November was really quick so I think it just balanced out for me. I think the one thing I am disappointing that I didn't achieve this year - is finishing writing my story. I told myself I would have it finished by the end of 2018... and as I write this it is the 30th and I am STILL at the mid point... and I have been here for about 2 months now. But no worries - I have now extended the deadline to before I go on holiday next year. So onto the main event of this point - my December wrap up. I am actually really happy that I managed 4 books... well three physical books and an audio book... but still I'm really proud of myself. So the books are - ; Girls of Paper and Fire by @girlinthelens ; The Devil's Thief by @lisamaxwellya ; The Bear and the Nightingale by @arden_katherine ; A Court of Wings and Ruin by @therealsjmaas via @audible So... to 2019 and to all the books I will read! • #decemberlibrary18 #allthebooksdec18 #decinbooks18 #ampersand2018 #bookreadhappyhour#igreads #bookphotography #bookstagramfeatures #beautifulbooks #culturetripbooks #bookishfeatures #bookporn #bookobsessed #bookflatlay #bookstack #bookcommunity #bookdragon #bookstagrammer #bookmerch #yalovin #bookishfeature #bookblogger #currentlyreading #booknerd #booksbooksbooks #bibliophile #bookaddict #booksofinstagram

#teaoftheday : Matcha Genmaicha 🍵 #ampersand2018 : Looking back I’m pretty surprised I managed to post daily for the #24daysoftea . While I was sick I wanted to give up but I’m glad I pushed myself and accomplished my goal. My favourite new #tea from the advent calendar has to be Ginger Tumeric Tonic but I’m biased since I was sick at that time. 😛 I didn’t complete my December #TBR and actually switched The Axeman‘s Jazz with a #book I was planning to read in January. After I finished A Stranger in the House I was pretty disappointed and wanted to take a break from mysteries. I decided to start Year One since I found out the sequel was out and I’m liking it so far. I’ll be back with a new TBR tomorrow so have an amazing New Year’s Eve everyone! 📖 #fearyournoveldecember / #bookstababesdec18 / #decshelfawareness / #bookishdec18 / #wildadventuresdec / #bookstagramtogetherdec / #booknerdsdec18 / #allthebooksdec18 / #decinbooks18 / #deckthereads / #bookstabest2018 : #december wrap-up ——- #davidstea #books #matchamonday #newyearseve #greentea #winter #bookstagram #teastagram #canada #matcha #teatime #goodmorning at Vancouver, British Columbia

Time to say goodbye to 2018. This has been a year of both great things and difficult challenges. I can only look ahead and resolve to improve my health and strength, and be thankful for all of the blessings bestowed upon me. I hope you all have a happy and healthy New Year! Wrapping up #bookstagram2018 is bittersweet. I set a personal goal to try and read more classics so my #goodreads goal was set to 60, and at least half should be classics. #classicreads2018 📚 I'd say it's a win, because even though half of my total read wasn't the number of classics read, I did outdo the set goal numbers. Plus, I read my first Rainbow Rowell! Total read: 128 Classics: 48 Non-fiction: 15 Favorites of the year: 📚 'Jane Eyre' (Bronte) 'Little Women' (Alcott) 'Eleanor & Park' (Rowell) 'The Secret Garden' (Hodgson) Day 31 challenges: Accomplish #ampersand2018 📆 Top Reads of 2018 #readgushchristmas 📆 Wrap-up #fangirlingindecember 📆 Sorry, I seem to lack the champagne flutes emoji. 🍾😄 #lilbookishcheer18 📆 #bookstagram #booklove #booknerd #bookphotography #wrapup #yearend #2018 #fireandblood #georgerrmartin #gameofthrones #newyearseve #bookanddrink #bookdragon #bookishfeatures #booknookstagram #bookstagramfeature #booksofinstagram #igreads #instabooks #goodreadswithaview

I've read 40 books, I've worked in a book shop for 5 months, I ate sushi for the first time, I ate Chinese food for the first time, I've started blogging, I've started putting money in a jar for a DSLR, I've started posting daily on Instagram, and so many more! #QotD : What are the best things you've accomplished this year? #winter #december #newyearseve #newyearsday #cupofcider #redcider #thefolly #bookstagramchallenge #bookrestaurant #booksandbeverage at The Folly

It’s time for my December book haul! Christmas book tokens and a staff discount are a great combination, because I was able to get way more books than I otherwise would’ve done. It’s a bit of a weird mix – some of these I’ve read before, but didn’t own copies of; others are new to me. Two are poetry, one is nonfiction, and one is an academic edition of a medieval text, because I’m a nerd. Not pictured: a graphic novel version of the Táin, in Irish, because it was a weird size and I couldn’t make it look good in the picture.⁣ ⁣ 2018 has been a pretty major year for me, I have to say. While I don’t think I’ve achieved everything I set out to do, I’ve achieved several things I’d never have thought of at the beginning of the year. I’ve written one new novel and rewritten two others, I graduated with a First from Cambridge, I have a job that I like, I’ve found some kind of spiritual direction for the first time in… YEARS, and I feel significantly more confident as a person! I also started competing with my Irish dance school, took up bookstagram, founded an online community for my medievalist friends (The Muddle Ages), and generally did a whole bunch of new things. So that’s pretty cool. ⁣ ⁣ As for 2019… TOMORROW marks the start of #FinnFuryRevolution, the challenge I’m co-hosting with @paperfury. Swipe to see the prompts again – will you be participating? I can’t wait to get started on it, I think it’ll be a fun month! ⁣ ⁣ 📚 Challenges 📚⁣ #DecInBooks18 – December haul and wrap-up⁣ #Ampersand2018 – Accomplish ⁣ #InspiredDecember – Reflect ⁣ ⁣ #bookstagram #bookhaul #2018 #yearinreview #newyear #books #reading #fantasy #bookstack #colourful #medieval #lovebooks #booklove #bookish

I DID IT. With an hour and a half to go, I finished my last book of 2018, which brings my total up to 130 books. Best. Reading. Year. EVER. I’m missing nearly 50 books from this photo, because they’ve either been donated/sold, or because I borrowed them from the library. Here are some other cool things that happened in my bookish life throughout 2018: 📚 Hosted another entire year of photo challenges. #Ampersand2018 is juuuuuuust shy of 14,000 tags! 📚 Challenged myself with Photoshop edits. 📚 Took my posting schedule down to once a day and felt way better for it. Legit cannot understand how I used to post three times a day every day. 📚 Connected with some fantastic bookstagrammers both here in Australia and around the world. 📚 Saw @UnderdogShortStories through to print! 📚 Participated in my first proper book club with @NameOfTheBook in Brisbane. 📚 Incorporated myself into more photos in order to become more comfortable with my body again. 📚 Had a milestone moment being one of four bookstagrammers in the world to help reveal the illustrations of The Tales of Beedle the Bard. Thanks again for this honour, @BloomsburyPublishing! 📚 NEARLY managed to get through all of my backlist from @TheYAChronicles. Only three to go! 📚 Used my library + Scribd to audiobook my TBR to within an inch of its life, and managed to get the total down to 105. DOUBLE DIGITS, I AM COMING FOR YOU. 2018 has been a wild ride with some incredible highs and lows. Thank you to those who tried to stick the boot in when I was down and taught me some powerful life lessons. Thank you to those who sent weird DMs and marriage proposals (you will be forever immortalised through screenshots). And thank you so much to those who cheered me on every day. 🎆Happy New Year’s Eve!!🎆 . These are all the books I read from my own shelves this year! I had a pretty bad reading slump throughout the end of 2017 and wanted to change my reading habits a bit so I stopped reading what I ‘had’ to read and started reading what I ‘wanted’ in 2018. I ignored my tbr piles and lists and instead focused on reading books I already owned. I joined in on @bookbattle (a reading challenge through a FB group) and chose random books to fit their criteria. I really enjoyed reading out of my comfort zones and getting to books that were forever being pushed to the back. Looking back, I feel like I didn’t put a lot of effort into my reading, blogging, or bookstagramming this year but I am glad for the change because it helped me step back, see things differently, and be more present in my own life. My reading habits and tastes have changed. I’ve expanded my worldview. I’ve learned more and made more friends than ever before. I still think 2018 was a complete dumpster fire but I’ve also enjoyed so much of it. The late nights. The adventures. Even the heartbreaking moments. So into a new year we go. Let’s make it a good one! . Top ten reads of the year in the order I read them: 🌟The Color Purple by Alice Walker 🌟Like Water For Chocolate by Lauren Esquivel 🌟Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi 🌟Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys 🌟An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir 🌟 Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys 🌟Night by Elie Wiesel 🌟The Time Machine by H.G. Wells 🌟The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini 🌟We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson . #beatthebacklist #beatthebacklist2018 #assassinsverymerrydecember #allthebooksdec18 #ampersand2018 #bookstagramtogetherdec #bookishdec18 #fangirlingindecember #bookstagram #igreads #bookgram #readersofinstagram #igbooks #bibliophile #bookworm #booknerd #bookdragon #booklover #booklove #bookstack #2018wrapup

#qotd : did you accomplish your reading goals this year? • Now 2018 is ending and the new one is right around the corner. I’m so glad 2018 is over, it’s been one of the worst years I’ve experienced. It’s had its ups and downs, mostly downs unfortunately but one good thing came out of it though. This account. I created it when I was at my worst mentally and I’m so glad I did, this community, the people I’ve talked to, the friends I’ve made on here have made this year better in any way and I’m so grateful for every single one of you!! How was your reading this month? With moving house, Christmas, and a ridiculously busy time at work, I’m surprised I made it through this many books! I’m also halfway through The Beast Within, and hoping to get to First & Then before the end of today. I ended my 2017 reading with an Emma Mills books, so this might become a bit of a tradition! Her books are always the perfect combination of light and fun that I need at the end of a busy year. I set myself a goal to read 30 books and I ended up reading 42 🙌 That's 22 books more than I read last year so I am pretty proud of myself 😄 I read 39 physical books and 3 ebooks! The ebooks were from authors and out of the 39 physical books (old and new) only one was a reread 😊 I hope you all had a great reading year too! ⭐ #lilbookishcheer18 🍷 #ampersand2018 Accomplish . . . . . #bookstagram #bookworm #booknerd #bookish #booklover #bookgeek #aussiereaders #bibliophile #igreads #booklove #bookdragon #ausyabloggers #ausbookishfeatures #bookstamums #instabook #instagood #bookstack #shelfie

New Year’s Eve. The day when everyone is thinking about what they did, what they want to do, what was great, what went wrong, what to change, why to change and also, what time am I getting to bed? I’m on my way back to work (thanks to someone deciding to reschedule an event to this morning), so I’ll be home at lunch time and napping before inevitably heading out to a few friends get togethers. At this exact moment in time, I’d rather stay home and go to bed! • December is the month when I never think I’ll have time to read a lot and always end up exceeding it! Undying was my 70th book and officially met my @Goodreads challenge goals, Daughter of the Siren Queen was the favourite, Deathly Hallows was on audiobook. Tales from the Shadowmarket set me up to finally start The Dark Artifices and Sightwitch made me so ready to go back to the Witchlands when Bloodwitch is released. What are some books you have read or bought because of Bookstagram? 📚 Hello, hello Dreamers, Happy Sunday Funday. My amazing family is still here on holiday. So we are having a day playing games and just enjoying one another’s company. ✨ I have been a terrible reading buddy over Christmas break. I still have a few chapters left of Muse of Nightmares. But it is by far one of my favorite sequels of the year! As soon as I heard about these stunning sprayed pages, I was sold. Luckily, the story is just as magical as this stunning book! When I decided to free myself of monthly TBR lists and simply read whatever struck my fancy at the moment, I had no idea I’d end up with a mile-long (slight exaggeration) list of books that I loved so much by the end of the year. But this is supposed to be a Top 10 list, so I whittled down my 2018 favorites to what you see here. . When whittling down the list, I didn’t only look for five-star reads. I chose books that made such an impact on me that I now find myself telling everyone I meet READ THESE NOW!!! . Without further ado, here’s my list: . H IS FOR HAWK, Helen MacDonald. Absolutely the best nonfiction book I’ve read in years. . THE TRAVELLING CAT CHRONICLES, Hiro Arikawa. A must-read for cat lovers everywhere. Bring tissues. Lots of tissues. . THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE, Shirley Jackson. LOVED this novella and fell in love with it even more after watching the Netflix series. . FRENCHMAN’S CREEK, Daphne Du Maurier. Who knew I liked adventure-romance novels featuring gentleman pirates? 😜 . LITTLE DORRIT, Charles Dickens. This one dethroned A CHRISTMAS CAROL as my favorite Dickens novel. I KNOW!😱 . JAMAICA INN, Daphne Du Maurier. More pirates, but not the gentleman variety. . NORTH AND SOUTH, Elizabeth Gaskell. Gaskell is so underrated as a writer. . THE BIRDS AND OTHER STORIES, Daphne Du Maurier. I guess Du Maurier is my new favorite-ist author.💕 . DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, Boris Pasternak. Sweeping story. It’s a classic for a reason. . CHRISTMAS DAYS, Jeanette Winterson. Incredibly well-written collection of short stories – and the introductions to her recipes are fabulous! . Which books made it to your Top 10 list?

‘Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts.’  I was the epitome of restraint in December, except for when the Boxing Day sales started; that is when it all flew out the window. The majority of my haul is currently in transit but I did treat myself to physical copies of the Captive Prince Trilogy, which I’m really excited for because I love that story SO MUCH. I’m also waiting on Running With Lions, The Goblin Emperor, Where Death Meets the Devil and the Jackaby series. I went a wee bit wild in the Audible sale too. Oops. I’m unofficially on a ban (except for pre-orders!) because I NEED to just read the books I have, including The Name of the Wind, which has been on my TBR for 167 years.  C H A L L E N G E S ♛ #bamdecember18 - Wrap up / haul ♛ #decinbooks18 - Number of books read in 2018: 230 ♛ #bookstawarriorsdec18 - Book haul ♛ #wildadventuresdec - Book haul ♛ #bookstababesdec18 - Book haul ♛ #fearyournoveldecember - December haul ♛ #ampersand2018 - Wrap up ♛ #bookqueensdec18 - Best sequel: Iron Gold  at Edinburgh, United Kingdom

“Life was much too short to play by anyone's rules but her own.” ✶ Okay, let’s talk new genres. I don’t think it’s a secret that I’m reading a lot of romance. I dabbled in the genre last year and it sort of exploded this year. What was once an occasional palate cleanser, is now something I actively look for and the Four Hundred series by Joanna Shupe is one of my favorites. ✶ For your consideration, I give you some books I bought last time I was at @mystgalaxybooks. With their new romance section, MG is helping to feed my addiction. ✶ #decbookstagram18 #fearyournoveldecember #allthebooksdec18: December haul #ampersand2018: wrap up #decinbooks18: number of books read ——————— Did you read any new genres this year? ——————— { #ADaringArrangement #AScandalousDeal #ANotoriousVow #JoannaShupe #hellostacee #vscobooks #booksandtea #cupinframe #booksandteacups #flatlaytoday #bookaesthetic #booksbooksbooks #whiteinframe #readmore #bookphotography #readersofinstagram #prettybooks #booksandminimalism}

My year in books. In a previous post, I highlighted my favorites, and now I'll share my #2018wrapup of all books read this year🎉 SWIPE to see more! 📚📚📚 I read 60 books (I didn't read all of "A Face Like Glass", so I don't include that in my personal stats). Many I enjoyed and would recommend, some I would not. 📚📚📚 Please see my ratings/reviews on Goodreads, if you are curious about a title I read and if it's something I would recommend or not.👍🏻 📚📚📚 #ampersand2018 #disneyreadsdecember18 #dickensdecember #assassinsverymerrydecember #readgushchristmas #pagesofcheer #grinchbookworld #ohmybookmaschallenge #lifelovereaddec18 #wonderlandreads2k18 #thebookwarriorsdecember #bookstabeastdec18 📚📚📚 #bellesenchantedbookchallenge - (book that changed your life : The Choosing)

december 30 ; #haul So guys - I have don't really make New Years resolutions because I don't tend to keep them... but I think there is one resolution I need to make and need to keep. Basically, it is to stop buying books. Now don't freak out - I am not going to stop reading or stop bookstagramming... but it does come with two reasons - 1 ; I have quite a few own but unread books - like probably less than other bookstagrammers but still enough that it makes no sense for me to buy new books and just increase the collection I have that needs to be read 2 ; I really need to save money... like house buying, holiday going save money. So I have a few plans for next year that need money... and while I have asked for a pay rise... whether or not I get it is another thing... but routing back to number 1 - rather than just buy loads of books why don't I just read what I have. Now - I'm saying this... but I also know that I have preordered about a dozen books so I will be technically buying books but the rule of "no buy 2019" kind of only counts for books I haven't read or I am unsure about reading but I just want or series I want to start for no reason. Also guys - you know what don't hold me to this... because you all know I will fail by about January 2nd. So let's just get back to the books I actually bought this month - I have a feeling I mentioned the first two last month - but I didn't add them to the photo I took - so they are just going to be tacked on here. ; The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by @themackensilee ; The Star Touched Queen (Crown of Wishes and the novella) by @roshanichokshi ; Empress of all Seasons by @emikojeanbooks#bookishholidays18 #allthebooksdec18 #bookstagramtogetherdec #ampersand2018#igreads #bookphotography #bookstagramfeatures #beautifulbooks #culturetripbooks #bookishfeatures #bookporn #bookobsessed #bookflatlay #bookstack #bookcommunity #bookdragon #bookstagrammer #bookmerch #yalovin #bookishfeature #bookblogger #currentlyreading #booknerd #booksbooksbooks #bibliophile #bookaddict #booksofinstagram
