@arcteryx donated their table tomorrow to @forestandthefemme for our 2pm show and I’m so excited for those of you coming to check them out! Their work is so incredible!!! See if you can even give them $2 - something to help them continue doing their incredible work in the world! Posted @withrepost@forestandthefemme Today we're reflecting on how our work aims to encourage new possibilities for women. Our aspiration is to create a future in which marginalized women will experience a sense of belonging, a source of hope, and an opportunity to feel optimistic about their place in the world. To achieve our mission, we believe that nature has the power to heal and transform, creating strengths that will carry throughout all aspects of our lives.  Since we began programming in 2012 we have taken over 100 participants on over 400 trips, which is almost 2,500 hours of time spent in nature! Our program is unique in that it connects women living in Vancouver's DTES with nature, places not otherwise accessible, and strives to be trauma-informed and low-barrier. We are so looking forward to another season!  We hope you can follow along with our adventures this year. #natureheals #allmyfriendsarewild

For the month of April I’ll be fundraising for the Vancouver based non-profit @forestandthefemme They provide access to nature through outdoor recreation programs for highly marginalized women (trans + non-binary inclusive) living in Vancouver’s DTES community. The link in my bio goes directly to their donation page, it would mean so much to me if you could contribute to their cause. After discovering the amazing work they do a few years ago, I started volunteering with them at the beginning of 2019. I’m not sure I can really sum up just how important their work is. Many of the women who partake in their programs have never had the opportunity to explore in nature or have not since childhood. As a woman whose identity feels so profoundly intertwined with the outdoors I would love to see them be able to continue to provide that access for others. #sheexplores #explorebc #thisisrange #arcteryx #womenwhohike #allmyfriendsarewild at Vancouver, British Columbia

*Gratitude time* Thanks to you we raised $4,148 for our 2019 programming during our year end campaign! Your generosity and support are so appreciated! Our hearts are full thinking about some of the milestones we reached this past year. In 2018, we surpassed 2,500 hours spent in nature since our founding in 2012. That's a lot of hours! Our programming featured more educational workshops than any year before, and we had outings all the way into November. Thank you for following along on our adventures this year, and for your kindness and support! #natureheals #allmyfriendsarewild ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ pc 📷 @wakefieldpro at Downtown Eastside

Nature keeps me balanced. I’m also extremely privileged to have the means to access nature on a daily basis. I don’t know what I would do if I wasn’t able to access nature. That’s why I’ve donated to @forestandthefemme Their purpose is to ensure women, especially Indigenous women, are able to experience nature for connection, for health, for culture, and for the sole purpose of being. Please consider donating to this amazing non-profit. In the summer we learnt how to make salmon leather with @forestandthefemme. Some we dyed with blackberry/beet juice, they came out in beautiful purple tones. This one we left the natural golden smoked brown. With the leather I made a medicine pouch, adorned with bone pipe beads. Which I gifted to my dad, who has been tirelessly advocating of behalf of BC's wild salmon for years. Many of the woman who access Forest and the Femme are Indigenous and have little too no knowledge of their culture. Forest and the Femme has been working hard to bring in Indiginous facilitators/elders to give the women a chance to reconnect. In knowing that ones sense of self and identity is so interconnected with culture/tradition for Indigenous woman, we realize how vital this non-profit really is. Please consider donating to this amazing cause, to ensure that the women continue to expirience mother earth and all her beauty. #indigenouswomen #healingthroughmotherearth #strongwomen #outdoorswoman #traditionalart #aboriginalculture #strongaboriginalwomen #allmyfriendsarewild

Our adventures come in all shapes and sizes. We focus on #microadventure trips that women with many barriers can accomplish but there are always participants working on dreamy goals and wishing big wishes. Some of our fave memories are from our trips to the islands around us. Vancouver Island has so much fun exploring to do and when we can afford the ferries we love to try and plan these bigger trips. Bowen Island is much closer and the ferry ride is gorgeous. We went there this fall with some adventure donations and had a fun day of exploring the seashores in the fall sunshine. #natureheals #allmyfriendsarewild Headed to Nexwlélexm in Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) territory. at Coast Salish Territory

Have you ever seen such a gigantic nettle leaf? We certainly wouldn’t want to stumble into that one by accident. Nettles are one of the plants that we learned about this year: everything from how to use it to nourish and soothe our bodies to thigh-spinning it into strands for weaving. And cooking with it too! But more on that later. . . The learning that we can do around the land is literally endless and SO MUCH FUN!! We have learned so much about plants and the land. Many of us, from all of our various cultures, have lost a lot of knowledge that our families once had about working with our plant friends. @earthandgleaners has taught us so much this year, and in years past, about new and fun ways to appreciate what grows all around us - even in the city. Weaving and spinning and tanning and dyeing. Thanks to all of the women at EartHand for all our your teachings 💚💚💚 . . #natureheals #allmyfriendsarewild

We are incredibly lucky to learn from so many inspiring women. This photo is from a multi-part series on land-based pigments and dye techniques that were led by Jewel Hill. Jewel is Iroquois Mohawk and mother of 2 from Six Nations and she is passionate about supporting women to heal through the land and learning. With her we learned how to begin considering the many ways that we can create art in relationship with the land around us using both traditional materials and introduced invasive plants. We had so much fun experimenting and learning together this summer! #natureheals #allmyfriendsarewild at Coast Salish Territory

We woke up here. We sipped our morning coffee in this place and we watched as the sun slowly broke through the morning mist and transformed the world around us into the brightest of blues and greens. The quiet was so dramatic. No waves, no wind, no other humans. Just us, morning birdsong and fish flicking at the surface. In the DTES there is no silence - the sirens are endless, the noise of neighbours is constant and chaotic. Imagine that contrast. Imagine how important that silence is. #natureheals Visiting St'at'imc territory. at Downtown Eastside

Finding our way. As we sat down at our lunch spot one day a participant said a thing that spoke to the powerful need for women to be able to connect with the earth. She said “I feel like I’m just being pushed through everything and things just happen to me and that’s all there is. I never think I have any control of anything. Flashback to a spring camping trip where every 30 minutes the skies tried to drown us with unbelievable amounts of rain. Movie rain. We’ve always said that nature gives anxiety a place to go. Being on the land helps anxiety to find a way to move out of your body instead of just free floating around inside of us. Even if it’s just for a little while. Every little bit of respite from those feelings or thoughts helps. Every single moment where you feel relief helps to build towards future moments that last longer and longer. Courage can build in those spaces. #natureheals
