LOVE IN BLACK AND WHITE
Two people with so much love for each other in a time when they can't express it. They have to keep a significant amount of space between themselves, can't touch, can't kiss, can't love because its forbidden.
Since its Valentine's Day and Black History Month, I wanted to pay homage to all the strong Women and Men of any race who fought for love in all its forms and shades. All the Interracial Couples who persevered so that we can have the freedoms we have today.
When it comes to inter-anything relationships, it is quite tough at some point during the course. The more differences, the harder it gets but for a few lucky couples, these differences are a strength. There is a lot of sacrifice and compromise, each party will never understand the struggles of the other, not fully and that has to be okay.
Through all the fear and denial, they stick with each other and slowly make their way through life until they find a place they call home, where they are comfortable, whatever that means in today’s world. Whether its trauma or not, they still feel watched and judged even at “home”.
With this image, I aimed to tell a tale as old as time, with all its glory, beauty and imperfections. Love is something we all need, something we can’t stay away from or survive without. In its many forms, it holds us up and lets us down, it makes us and breaks us, it exists even when we don’t see or feel it.
