Meet Olivia, a 5-6 year old Pitbull who came in to @islipanimals in April of 2018. She and two other dogs were impounded by the SPCA from a property due to neglect. All three dogs were tied up and Olivia was found lying in a garbage pail that had fallen over, like it was a dog house.
Upon Olivia’s arrival at the shelter, she was emaciated, had skin issues, and pressure sores around her pelvic area. The results of her first vet exam were malnutrition and a parasitic infection. She weighed 48 pounds when she came in but she is currently doing well and weighs 58 pounds.
Olivia is strong on the leash; she really enjoys taking walks with anyone, and loves everyone she meets. Olivia is dog selective; she is social and gets along well with some dogs, and with others she want to be dominant over. A meet and greet will be required to determine if future dog sibling would be the right fit. She didn’t react at all to cats even when they were hissing and spitting at her through the cage.
The best home for this beautiful girl is with a savvy, experienced owner, who is committed to loving and cherishing her for her entire life! She needs a patient individual/family that will understand her needs and give her time to decompress and learn to trust you. She must learn to trust that you are a competent, capable leader who has her best interests at heart.
Olivia would do best in a active home with children over the age of ten due to her bone/bully stick aggression. The shelter states that when they have had her out at adoption events, she does wonderfully with anyone who approached her, even young children.
Please help us give Olivia the chance at a REAL forever home like she deserves! Please share her story and help us get her name and face out into the dog loving community. Bring this beautiful girl home and make her part of your family, I guarantee the love you receive in return will be the best feeling you have ever felt in your entire life! #adoptdontshop #shelterdog #adoptabledog #nydog #adopt #rescue #pitbullsofinstagram #pitbulllovers #islipanimalshelter
