Our first Thanksgiving out of the US/Canada. Walking Wimbledon and the commons. In our American accents we asked the London school kids what day it was. Quizical looks, “it’s Thursday, sir !?!” Our waiter thought it Wednesday “its been a long busy week 🤪”. No, its Thanksgiving !!! And here’s our amazing, fantastic British meal that came as close as we could get to Thanksgiving dinner in London.

Thank you, next! 🖤 2018 has been the hardest year when it comes to setbacks. UMD wasn’t accepting my residency status so I couldn’t afford to go this semester. Because I wasn’t full time, I was unable to present at ABRCMS. I was feeling very stagnant and very disappointed but I went with the biggest smile to the conference! Boy am I so happy I went, it reignited my passion and I networked with some of the nation’s brightest students. I made some wonderful contacts and I’m looking forward to 2019 and all of the wonderful opportunities and doors God will open to me! Never give up, have faith and just keep chiseling away! 😍 @abrcms #abrcms #biomedicalscience #research #researchconference #conference #thankyounext #arianagrande #faith #god #brightest #students #college #umd #universityofmaryland at Indianapolis, Indiana

2️⃣6️⃣scholars from MU’s Initiative for Maximizing Student Diversity (IMSD) program participated in this year's Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students ( #ABRCMS) hosted in Indianapolis. 🔬 . . . 1️⃣7️⃣ students presented their research — a record best for the program. For the eighth year in a row, at least one of our IMSD scholars has been selected as an Outstanding Research Presentation Award Recipient; this year we had two! 🏆🏆 . . . Here is Brian Booton, undergraduate director for IMDS, with the two award winners: James Ball, a senior majoring in biological sciences, and Paxton Kostos, a junior majoring in biochemistry. 🙌 . . . Congratulations from A&S to all of the winners, presenters, and faculty mentors! 🎉🎉🎉 #A&S4Success #diversity @ugradresearchmu @mizzou @paxkos @abrcms @mizzoubiology

Last week (while suite mates thought I had died) I had actually died and gone to heaven! I had the opportunity to go to the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students and present the research I did in Dakar, Senegal this summer . Not only was it an honor to represent the University I love so much but it was transformative to be surrounded by so many people of color creating and working on innovative solutions to our biggest issues in health and STEM! The amount of love and support from the hundreds of programs and thousands of students was amazing. And every attendee dedicated to the one goal: diversify STEM research and redirect it to tackle issues plaguing our specific communities. Once again God came through and opened my eyes more and more to show me the ways that I can impact lives with the gifts He has given to me . And that your gift will indeed make room for YOU. Not only was my time amazing, but Howard University brought home the most awards that we have at this conference ever!! Our students are brilliant, capable, and determined to make a difference in their fields. As Howard pushes for R1 status to become the research university we were made to be, I can already see how much opportunity that brings to students to allow them to take these conferences by storm and enter their fields with invaluable experience. I was even able to connect with a ton of grad schools who now want to come to Howard to tell students about the opportunities that they can offer. I can’t thank LSAMP, GEAR-UP, Howard University, or Cheikh Ante Diop Universite enough ! #OneDownALifeTimeToGo #ABRCMS #abrcms2018 at Indiana Convention Center

Trust the process and never doubt yourself! I presented my research at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS). It was a privilege to meet so many minority students pursuing research (over 4,700 students representing 700 colleges and universities) - ready and willing to transform the world through science! My research is on South American Poison Dart Frog’s Diversity in Toxicity in Correlation to their Diet. • Feeling froggy? Jump! #ABRCMS #ABRCMS2018 at Indiana Convention Center

This year was third time attending this conference. This year I watched my mentee @jada.mccall shine during her poster presentation, my newfound friend @black_gray_white win an award, and I got to network the right way. I will forever be grateful for #ABRCMS. One day I’m going to be a speaker there. 💁🏾‍♀️👩🏾‍🔬
