While walking around the streets of Guanajuato, Mexico, I noticed up ahead that the entire street was blocked off to cars because some sort of a parade was going on. There was a marching band playing music and people seemed to be celebrating. Wondering what this was for, I decided to venture up ahead and check it out. Turns out this parade and “celebration” was actually a funeral, and the casket was being carried down the street in the front of the parade. I’ve always liked the way Mexico views and treats death much more than the US does, but this is the first time I actually got to witness this with my own eyes. In Mexico, when a loved one dies, they have a party and celebrate the life of that person, with fun and music, whereas in the US, it is a very somber, depressing experience with a lot of silence, apologizes, emptiness, and tears. This is pretty fascinating to me and this positive outlook says a lot about the culture and people of Mexico. I’m not saying these people aren’t sad that their loved one had passed away, but the way they showcase their sadness and loss is much better than how other cultures would in my opinion. I would love to come back to Mexico someday for Dia de Los Muertos to see this beautiful country and their people celebrate death on an even grander scale. Seeing how the locals deal with tragedy and loss is a very interesting thing to observe when traveling internationally, and when it’s my turn to eventually leave this planet, I would much rather see my family and friends having a celebration of my life than crying over my death. RIP to whoever this person was and I’m sure you’re smiling knowing that this many people came into the streets to celebrate your life ⚰️☠️ . . . . . #wanderlust #travelbug #travelblogger #travelphotography #travellife #instatravel #travelgram #travelwithme #exploringtheglobe #travelwriter #postcardsfromtheworld #lovetotravel #roamtheplanet #bloggerlife #momentsofmine #mexico #mexico🇲🇽 #mexico_tour #mexico_fotos #mexico_amazing #mexicomaravilloso #mexico_great_shots #🇲🇽 #guanajuato_mx #guanajuato #visitmexico #travelmexico #mexicotravel #visitguanajuato at Guanajuato, Mexico

Coming face to face with death at El Museo de las Momias in Guanajuato, Mexico. There are over 100 real mummies on display here, and this is easily one of the creepiest, yet most interesting museums in the entire world. All of these naturally mummified bodies are the result of a cholera outbreak around Guanajuato in 1833. Being just a few inches away from these bodies stirred up many different emotions inside me, and it is a fascinating reminder of our own mortality. There is a certain beauty and art in death, and this mummy museum does an incredible job of showcasing that in a tasteful and respectful manner. Scroll through to see some of the many new friends I have made at this museum that have passed on to the other side. Would you be brave enough to visit this museum and stare death in the face? 💀🇲🇽 . . . . . #wanderlust #travelbug #travelblogger #travelphotography #travellife #instatravel #travelgram #travelwithme #exploringtheglobe #travelwriter #postcardsfromtheworld #lovetotravel #roamtheplanet #bloggerlife #momentsofmine #mexico #mexico🇲🇽 #mexico_tour #mexico_fotos #mexico_amazing #mexicomaravilloso #mexico_great_shots #🇲🇽 #guanajuato_mx #guanajuato #visitmexico #travelmexico #mexicotravel #visitguanajuato at Guanajuato, Mexico

I just so happened to be in one of the most romantic cities in the world on Valentine’s Day, so while wandering around the streets and alleys of Guanajuato, Mexico, I discovered many places that have stories of love and romance attached to them. Possibly one of the most popular romantic spots in the city to visit and snap a photo is El Callejón del Beso, which translates to “The Alley of the Kiss”. When two lovers pass through this alley, they must kiss on the third step in order for their love to last forever. Among the many winding, claustrophobic alleys and thoroughfares in the Mexican city of Guanajuato, this alley stands out among all the rest both for its incredible tightness and for the tragic Romeo and Juliet-esque romance that is said to have taken place there. According to local legend, a wealthy family lived in one of the buildings that helped create the alley, and their daughter, whose bedroom window looked out onto the alley, fell in love with a young man who was a miner. The father forbid his daughter from seeing this man because he was poor and lower class, and he wanted to marry her off to a wealthy husband. The man managed to save up enough money to rent out the room in the building across from hers with a window that was directly across from her own as well. At night, they would secretly meet and kiss across the tiny alley. Unfortunately, the girl’s father found out, and in a fit of rage, stabbed his own daughter to death right in the heart (how symbolic). Since the man was now heartbroken, he threw himself to his death in the alley below. Their tragic romance is a testament to true love, and hopefully the next time I come here, I’ll be able to share a kiss with a certain special lady instead of posing here alone on Valentine’s Day lol. ❤️😘 at El Callejón del Beso
