Trainer Tip Tuesday Here to Overtake! . I’m so happy I got one of these sweaters though 😭 . Anyways, today’s topic is about training movement patterns vs training individual muscles. Should we train individual muscles? . First, let’s go over our main movement patterns. These include: 1️⃣hinge 2️⃣squat 3️⃣lunge 4️⃣push 5️⃣Pull 6️⃣rotation 7️⃣gait . The way we move through these patterns tell us a lot about the stability/mobility of our joints and what weak/tight muscles cause these dis functions. We must understand how individual muscles play into our movement patterns before isolating them. . When starting a training program, we should be aware of our movement and identify if we have any muscles that need strengthening/stretching. If we start a training program without first correcting any present imbalances we run the risk of injury and further delaying our so wanted results. . ***Long but worth it!!!*** I almost wasn’t going to post this... I wanted to put together a really great transformation post with me in my black sweater dress that I felt so great in over the weekend. When I put it next to a photo of myself from a friend’s wedding a few years back, I was bummed to see that the difference wasn’t as drastic as I had hoped. But then I talk to some of my teammates and they reminded me that transformations aren’t just on the outside, they are on the inside too. At my friend’s wedding, I felt bloated and uncomfortable. I was wearing spanx under the dress and they kept bunching. Fast forward to last weekend... I felt great and pretty. I was comfortable in my own skin and didn’t feel the need to wear spanx. My dress is a size small!! If it weren’t for my amazing teammates, I wouldn’t have taken the time to consider my internal transformation and make this post. Well, I finished! And I’m super pumped to do it again... after my 21 Day Ultimate Reset (more on that later!). . I truly love Transform :20. My physical transformation hasn’t been as dramatic as my mental transformation- I won’t even know the actual number until tomorrow, but I kind of don’t care right now. So, here I am posting another workout photo. What you don’t see is what is going on inside my head. You see, inside it is a daily battle to show up. Does that battle ever end? No, not really. It all boils down to you and the choices you make. Last July I chose to finally stop making excuses, stop putting it off and JUST DO IT! I signed up for this program and haven’t looked back since. Not a single second of it has been easy, but just like anything the more you do it the better you get at it. The hardest thing to change is the mind. It can bring you great strength or great weakness if you allow it. I allowed mine to make me think I could never reach a certain weight, stick to eating healthy, push myself further than I ever have physically. It’s inside of us all. We all have goals and dreams don't we?? I know I do!! This summer at our annual coach summit, I have been presented with the opportunity to undergo an instructor training with none other than "Shaun T"!!! 🎉 OH YEAH!!! 🤸‍♀️ @shaunt Some may be saying , who is that?? Well he is one of Beachbody's top SuperTrainers!!! He is an athlete, an author and an exceptional motivational speaker.. I had the honor of being in one of his workout sessions last year , and he has most definitely left a mark in my life ❤ So, long story short, I know I have to be prepared for that "day long" session and the only way for that to happen is to WORK FOR IT!! I'm not going to be ready by sitting around, assuming I'll be where I need to be without doing something about it!! I've set a GOAL for myself and I intend to SLAY it!! Have I doubted that I'd be able to do it?? Sure, I did !! BUT, I WILL DO IT!! Because of belief in myself and knowing that I wont need to be perfect! My daily affirmations help me strengthen my confidence. One in particular has been super critical to my growth so I wanted to share that one with you. • “I stop focusing on what others MIGHT think of me and how I MAY be judged. Instead I focus on living out MY PURPOSE & the impact I am able to have in the lives of OTHERS as they begin to BELIEVE in themselves & completely TRANSFORM their lives.” . • So many times we make life & the situations we go through all about US. This puts a spotlight on our fears and insecurities. However when we focus on serving others and the impact we are able to have in their lives, it’s much easier to push past those fears & let go of those insecurities. . • It can be really challenging to let go of things that others have said, especially if it’s something you already struggled with or if its near & dear to your heart. I will dive in on the effective way I’ve learned to truly “let it go” here soon as I continue to share more about my confidence growth journey.

I can’t even begin to explain how powerful these kind of immersions are and how much it helps you learn, grow and expand in every possible way. . To see 14,000 people dedicate 4 days to become better versions of themselves, push themselves out of their comfort zone and be willing to see things from a different perspective is truly amazing and beautiful. . Having to literally scream at the top of your lungs to release shit, put your fingers up your nose as a part of an exercise, and do the cheesiest freaking dancing EVER, really allows you to let go of all seriousness and helps you give zero fucks. And how liberating is life when you just have zero fucks to give? Magic happens when you get out of your comfort zone 🙌🏼✨ . “Practice Makes Pro, not Practice Makes Perfect.” 🙌🏻 . I recently heard this while listening to one of Jeff Gitomers books. (I highly recommend you check them out if you haven’t) 📚 . And it clicked with me.. ✅ . Specifically while i was growing up but more or less my whole life I have strived for perfection. . I know this is something I learned from my father but I feel I may have taken it to another level. . When I was young if I walked one batter it wasn’t a good game from the mound, if I made 7 out of 10 free throws it wasn’t good enough An A- wasn’t satisfactory, why didn’t I get an A. This was the mentality I carried for myself. . I can’t say that this attitude was all bad because that with the chip on my shoulder guided me to do many things that people said I never would. . Looking back though there really is no such thing as perfection... . But if you work your tail off.. harder than 99% of people you can achieve some pretty awesome things. . You do it for yourself. You have to SHOW UP for yourself and make sure you come all the way through. Trust and believe in WHO YOU ARE! — my trainer said it perfectly today! 🔥 . . BACK @ IT WITH A PRE-PRAISE SESH 😆💃🏽 & clearly SO excited!! I took a few days off to give my back a rest from the pain I’ve been having. My doctor said it’s musculoskeletal so, I need to be extra cautious and give it time to heal. I was cleared to SLOWLY get back into my program today so, thank God every single program that I do has a MODIFIER for me to follow along with. Imagine if I was in the gym & didn’t have a trainer to guide me and show me how to modify? 😬 another perk of these programs. So, as tough as it was to go much slower and easier than I’m used to, I still pushed through (listened to my body) and, felt JUST as ‘strong’ mentally and physically and so darn empowered! Our bodies are simply amazing!! ♥️👌🏽 . . I will be cutting this current program 2-weeks short (bittersweet) so that I can take it back to my roots! The FIRST 21-day program that I did when I became a coach & member of this community in June of 2015. L I F E A M B I T I O N: About four years ago I wanted to be a high flying, important business man... You know the types, yup... None looked like me. 🙄. I wanted this because I wanted to be respected, liked, validated anything that proved I wasn't just another lost black youth to a system that does not want to see me win. One day a young man walked into my office and said 'Hey I'm James, your SAP (Software) consultant here for the upgrade' Consultant...? What the hell was that... I know... I was still young and mostly dumb. Over the next four days, James would paint a picture of hotels, travel, adventure and get this... People pay money for you to tell them what to do... Ding, Ding Ding.. There is was... RESPECT. Whoop whoop! So I spent the next year learning everything I could about becoming a consultant. I applied for ever job I could find and sure enough I landed my 1st proper consulting job. After a few months though of travelling , not much flying and poor training... 'Noise' started to surface around me. I felt again that pain of potentially failing, the system doing what the system does best. I was not going to let it beat me... I asked myself why, then how to beat it and came up with the phase F THAT NOISE. Meaning f what you think of me, how I walk, talk, speak, sit I would not allow 'you' to define me. I developed a f you, pay me mentality. I knew my destiny was waiting for me and this was not it. I left and never looked back. Conclusion: I knew what I wanted now, later and what I was not prepared to accept. I would ask every time I had noise around me... Why? Then how? By asking better questions, I was able to give me better answers. If someone is not where you want to be in life and has the things you want and they make you feel that you need their approval. Just remember... They are not where you are going and their approval means zero to your success.

I always thought I would never break my cycle of wanting to lose the weight and gaining it all plus more back. ⁣ ⁣ Not only have I found something that has worked but it’s still working. I’ve learned so much, I’ve learned that our bodies are a temple for the Holy Spirit. Do you feel comfortable in your own body? It took me A LONGG time to feel COMFORTABLE in my own body, regardless of what I was wearing. I would NEVER wear tight summer dresses or shorts.. It was a horrible feeling to try things out and them not looking good because I wasn’t comfortable in my own body. If sucked and it sucked even more to know that it was the body I had & i knew there was NO QUICK FIX. ⠀ I stoped complaining & hating my body and did something about it. Sometimes it can be hard to deal with the unknown, where you are about to enter a new routine, life change, or event in your life. It can be scary because you are going to be changing your routine, what you have been used to and what you are comfortable with, into a new decision anjd situation that is daring and fresh. I myself am going through a transitional time right now where I am graduating unversity, needing to find a new place to live and a new job and it definately has put a toll on me! This made made me realize and want to share the importance of approaching these times in the best possible way, which is reaffirming to yourself that it is indeed happening for a reason. Life is all about having to adapt to change and taking opportunities, and any time things may be changing for you is actually quite wonderful! THIS IS NOT THE END.... #transformationtuesday • When I started my 'Step It Up, Transform' Programme in January i knew I had 3/4 pounds to lose from eating a little too excessively over the festive season. I still decided to use the maintenance plan as I was also taking evening classes so was going to be burning extra energy etc. • I felt my strength increase every week on this 6 week programme and I felt stronger in mindset every bit as much as in the body which was a big win for me. I knew it was a workout that was going to get terrific transformations - I had seen it in the Test Group. PLUS it had huge advantages of being able to fit your workouts in and around a busy lifestyle AND the nutrition plan was easy to follow... • To be honest, I was a bit blase about my own results - so much so that I didn't actually compare my before and after measurements until this morning, lol. I wasn't being cocky, I was just more interested in my team and their transformations than I was about my own. • So I was amazed and delighted to find that I had lost 4lbs in body weight and lost 5 inches overall, 2 on my waist! HAPPY DAYS!!!! • BUT I still love the non measurable gains of this programme... Day 3, Week 3. 👏🏼 I added this video because, no one is perfect. Just because I talk all this motivational talk, doesn’t mean I don’t struggle. When I used to sit, my stomach reached HALFway across my thighs. I couldn’t even believe how boofed out my belly was. I was sitting down the other day and was like “wow my tummy is cute now.” I have about 80 pounds left to lose before I hit my goal, but becoming comfortable and loving the new me every time a new victory comes along is all a part of this battle too. Our radical move to a country we've never been to before had just too many unknowns: no jobs, no connections, baby #2 coming in 2 months, no idea of where we choose to settle down🏡⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We did have our parents' friends in NY and an acquaintance in Texas who kindly offered to host us until we find our own place.
