(Almost) every morning, I got to drive to placement in Brockville and Prescott with a view like this. Sometimes it’d be pitch black if I drove at 6am but it’d be just like this if I drove at 7am. 😴 . Driving an hour each way every morning wasn’t the highlight of my days. It’d be the learning that I knew it’d do that day that would motivate me to drive such a far distance (and also the fact that because it was mandatory and there was no other choice 😂). . Little did I know that I’d learn so much from working in small towns like Brockville and Prescott. 🌍New research suggests that eating kiwifruit may have significant benefits for sleep. ✨ STUDY RESULTS ⤵️ 🔹People fell asleep more quickly. Sleep onset latency—the amount of time it takes to fall asleep after going to bed—decreased by 35.4%. 🔹People slept more soundly. Waking time after sleep onset—the amount of time spent in periods of wakefulness after initially falling asleep—fell 28.9%. 🔹Sleep quality improved. Scores on a standardized sleep quality questionnaire—where lower scores mean better sleep—decreased by 42.4%. 🔹Sleep efficiency—a measurement of the amount of time spent actually sleeping compared to the total amount of time spent in bed—increased by 5.41%. 🔹People slept more overall. Total sleep time among the volunteers increased by 13.4%. ✨ What’s behind the possible benefits of kiwi to sleep? There are a couple of characteristics of the fruit that may make it a strong sleep-promoting food: its high antioxidant levels and its high serotonin levels. ▪️ Serotonin is also critical in sleep. ~I used to look at being healthy as a punishment. I would look at eating healthy as a thing I had to do because I had eaten so bad the day before, the week before, the month before. I used to think I needed to run 8 miles to “balance” what I had put in my mouth. What started as a love for running turned to running because I felt like I had to, not because I felt like I got to. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ~I now get to workout, I now get to eat well and nourish my body. I now get to feel way better about myself. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ~Quick fixes that advertise we will be skinnier, smarter, better the next day are lying. It takes work. It takes breaking habits. It takes telling yourself “I get to” rather than “I need to” over and over again. It takes sustainability and it takes surrounding yourself with positive people. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ~Tell for yourself today that you’re done believing in quick fixes. You’re done setting yourself up with unrealistic expectations. You’re done saying you “need to” and if it’s not an “I get to” then don’t do it!⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ~There isn’t a secret. No magic formula.
