Living in a diet mentality mindset might mean that you are doing a specific diet, eating "clean", or it could just be placing arbitrary rules that dictate when, how much, and what you eat 👇🏼⠀⠀ ...⠀⠀ For example: Diet mentality may mean you only allow yourself to eat ice cream at specific occasions, or special events. Doing so may make the ice cream glittery, alluring, seductive even, simply because it's "off limits" in your brain 🍦 You may overeat it when you do allow yourself to have it. Do you relate to that?⠀⠀ ...⠀⠀ In contrast, intuitive eaters know that they can have ice cream whenever they want it. They may have lots of ice cream in their house so that when they do want it, it's there. They don't stress about randomly going to get ice cream with a friend, they truly enjoy the food they are eating, and are able to tell how much ice cream is satisfying for them. It's a peaceful relationship with food ❤️⠀⠀ ...⠀⠀ With intuitive eating, we are working on questions like 👉🏻 Are you hungry? What are you hungry for? How would that make you feel? It's not an easy process, but the freedom that comes from thinking LESS about food is totally worth it. Throwback Thursday - to my very first sets of photos of me doing yoga. In January of 2019 I took a class, totally last minute and perfect with @graceduckworth learning Intuitive Body Sequencing. I talk about this teacher training all the time because it was profound. It was a small group of amazing women, and one of the things that has stuck with me the most really, has been this concept. In yoga (AND LIFE) sometimes we believe that to get better at something - we must do that same thing over and over and over. So if we are going to be better at doing a forward fold, just do that exact thing 1000 times. This class was radical in that it taught that instead of doing that - figure out what limits our abilities to do different parts of yoga, and then work with those muscle groups to sequence in such a way that we are better able to do the three key poses in yoga- forward folds, back bends, and side bends. Man was it effective. You can see from my before and after shots. It’s weird - usually in pictures with before and after it’s about being smaller in one of them. But really - the only difference with any of these pictures - is a yoga class. One yoga class targeting something. So it works with any size body. Aaah yoga for all sizes of humans, working. Amazing. Anyway, it was a fun class and it sparked me seeing myself do yoga. Belly and all. At a time where I was really starting to photograph myself. Next week I go to my second specialized teacher training and I am so excited. Don’t feel guilty because you don’t enjoy lifting the same weights at the same, smelly gym every morning. There are so many more ways to move your body than that, and exercise is about so much more than moving for the sake of it. Ask not what you can do to exercise, ask what exercise can do for you.

♡ A message to the body positive community... ♡ I apologise for previously trying to occupy a space where I didn't belong. When I started this account I wasn't as educated or aware as I am now and I'm now able to recognise that my voice, as a cisgender, thin, mostly able-bodied, white female, is not one that is necassary within the context of Body Positivity. ♡ Body positivity is a movement, one for marginalized bodies, not ones like mine who have lots of privilege, even if I don't always feel like I do (and I'm able to recognise now that feeling fat because of body dysmorphia is not the same as actually being fat and that my struggles can't be compared those of people with actual fat bodies). ♡ But to everyone else, don't worry, my content itself won't be changing, just the way I label it. A couple of months ago I changed my bio from 'body positivity' to 'body acceptance' and I stopped using hashtags like  #bodypositivity#bopo and  #bodyposi. And if you're reading this and you've posted under those hashtags or labelled your posts or account as body positive please make sure that your voice is one that's needed within the movement. Because if your body is accepted for the most part by society then maybe consider changing to things like  #bodyacceptance  #bodypeace #bodylove or  #bodyconfidence. ♡ Because your voice is important and needed in those aspects, and your content doesn't necassarily need to change, just how you word or label it. Body positivity is a political movement, it doesn't just mean being confident and accepting your body as I once thought, and it is not to be hijacked by people who have a great deal of privilege when it comes to their bodies. ♡ I definitely struggle with admitting that I'm wrong a lot of the time but I think in this context it's necassary, especially because I know there are a great deal of people out there still making the same mistakes as I did who might see this and reconsider. ♡ I am by no means perfect but I will continue to be educated and work towards helping this world be a better place. Go out there and enjoy life, enjoy what you love doing. Stop worrying about what other people think about you or whether they will agree with what you're doing. The truth is that people are always going to judge & criticize no matter what. Not everyone has to like you and you don't have to care. You have to be okay with people not liking you after all we ourself don't like and vibe with everyone. . Do whatever you have to do to make yourself feel better and confident. Don't expect other people to make you feel beautiful. It is not your spouse's job to make you feel complete and beautiful. And don't get with someone in the hopes of that person making you feel complete. Because it won't happen confidence and completeness is something that comes within us from us. We have to make an effort to feel complete and confident, it's a daily battle, it's not something that just happens and that somebody else can create for you. You have to create it for yourself. . Today was a day. Sybil woke me up at 0300 because she peed her bed. I snatched a couple of hours and slept longer than I intended. I almost didn't do it, but I did. Why? Enjoyable Body Movement has been making such a difference. I am all in to show that you don’t have to diet and stick to hard workout plans in order to lose fat and increase your overall wellness. I believe in exercising in ways that you enjoy and will love doing! I weigh 255 lbs because I was depressed for a very long time, emotionally binged, and practiced very unhealthy habits. I don’t believe this is my natural healthy weight and so instead of chronic dieting and starting a workout plan, I am practicing gentle nutrition and moving my body in fun ways. I am definitely challenging myself and having fun while doing it!!!! There is another way ladies! 😜🤟🏻

If you are struggling...I want you to know...you have SO MUCH to live for!! Life on the other side truly is a million % better. The unknown truly is worth getting to know. Without the chaos, you discover you are more than equipped and capable to truly LIVE, to feel your emotions, to give your energy where you want to give, and to love and receive love. I promise - all the fears you have about not being able to handle life...they are only fears because you are basing your life on the chaos you currently feel. Dinner! Baked potato stuffed with garlic peas/mushrooms and a hard boiled egg, with broccolini steamed in lemon juice on the side 🥔🥦 - This might be a strange combo to some, but I grew up having hard boiled eggs as a topping on different foods 🤷‍♀️ - Having this was very difficult. I was hungry an hour before the time I’m “allowed” to have dinner. I eventually wrestled my mind into letting myself eat when I was hungry. Prior to that point, I spent an absurd amount of time pacing the grocery store. I ran through different recipes, put ingredients for said recipe in my basket, put them back, chose another recipe, found those ingredients, put them back, rinse, and repeat. If I’m honest, the calorie and protein content was a driving force behind putting things back. - - Ultimately I ended up with a meal I truly enjoyed. The pea/mushroom mix is higher in calories than other veggies I could’ve had, but it’s what I wanted and what I had. - - Still struggling a lot with behaviors. I got my hair done today and was sitting for 3 hours which is really rough for me. I feel the need to always be moving, i.e., burning calories. I just wish my brain would shut up and let me eat without all the guilt. - - I hope you’re all having a nice day!

The final couple of years before I fell down the Intuitive Eating vortex, I was doing the thing where I’d be rigid about what I ate during the week, and loosen the reins on the weekends. Sunday was always a big free-for-all where my husband and I went crazy on all kinds of food we wouldn’t touch throughout the week.⠀ ⠀ All that did was perpetuate a weekly shame-superiority cycle. I’d go to bed uncomfortably full on Sunday nights, then spend the weekdays “being healthy.” At the time, it was just my lifestyle, it didn’t feel disordered or like a diet... until I stopped doing it and realized how great it was to eat French fries at happy hour on a Wednesday or recognize I wasn’t even in the mood for donuts on a Sunday and didn’t have to cram it in just because it was my only chance for the week. ⠀ ⠀ Diet culture is sneaky AF. It doesn’t always look like having a designated “cheat day.” Sometimes it’s having rules in everyday life, and then allowing yourself to “loosen up” on vacation or on a special occasion.⠀ ⠀ If you believe you have to eat a certain way to “earn” a chance to eat other types of food, or that there are certain foods you should avoid no matter what (aside from those you’re legit allergic to or intolerant of) it may be worth some reflection. ⠀ I can only say what’s been true for myself and the people I’ve treated. So I believe you if you tell me you’re genuinely happy in your relationship to food. But I can say for me personally, letting go 100% of all rules and schedules around which foods were acceptable gave me freedom I never even knew I was missing out on.⠀ ⠀ Do you feel the need to “cheat” or have trouble allowing yourself certain foods or types of food at given times? Heard it’s #nationalswimsuitday and I’ve got some LENGTHY thoughts on it... 👙 Going into this spring I had so much anxiety about swimsuit season and having a body that was “beach ready”. I would walk past the suits at target and nearly have a panic attack. I have not thought positively about my body. 😩 But we are called to stand upon His truths, and the Bible says this: we were created in His image and we are loved. The closer I’ve grown to God, the less I’ve worried about what I look like to others. When we hate ourselves, we are practically telling God that what he made us to be isn’t good enough. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to tell the God of the universe that he didn’t do a good enough job.... 😳 Do I still weigh myself 3 times a day? Yes. Do I still struggle with negative self talk? Yes. But am I trying to find my worth in the world? Not any more. 🙅🏻‍♀️ All of this to say: your body is exactly how it’s supposed to be today, in this moment. If you want to swim, throw on a suit and caution to the wind. You are worthy of love no matter what you look like or weigh. Read your Bible on the beach and enjoy His creation. A Testimony; Walking away from toxicity.. I tried to look strong. Unafraid, taking that first breath .. on my own .. My lungs almost collapsed .. Looking back, that’s easier.. Will it be worth it? Moment 5.... From 22 to 27 years, I focused on becoming the healthiest version of myself possible. This included exercising, eating well, having treats only once a week and focusing on rebuilding my stomach lining. I had a moderately good relationship with food but still focused on 'good' or 'bad' food types limiting my 'bad' foods to the weekend. But I still loved trying every single fad diet that would come out; I would give most of them a shot. From super foods, keto, paleo; you name it and I've probably researched it or tried it. Restorative yoga is one of my favorite things to do. The first time I did it I felt more connected to my body that I ever had. And I felt like I was taking up all the space. . This is exactly how I feel - getting ready to compete in a national pageant. I have never done this before. I was never the little girl playing with hair and makeup, I was burying my little green army men in the yard, having a funeral for them. I wore a tie and collared shirt in my senior photo - cringed when I had to buy a dress for prom. I had never been very in touch with my feminine side and a large part of that was because I didn't feel worthy of the feminine things. I didn't feel like I was woman enough. That being fat, not knowing how to do my eye makeup, not wanting to take the time to blow dry my crazy hair, meant I was lesser than other women - that did those things, with pride. I feel differently about that now. I am okay with me in my natural state, but I also feel a sense of daring - a spark - when I put on lipstick or wear a dress. I know now that being fat has nothing to do with being a woman. And that being fat doesn't make me any less beautiful. Heck, my husband would argue that I am more beautiful because of my curves. Certainly it's nice to have a private cheering squad at home! But pushing my boundaries - being here telling the world that I am worthy and I am beautiful - is quite empowering! It is often very hard for me to push myself out of my comfort zone, to make myself do a thing that feels scary. But every time, on the other side, I feel ALIVE! this is your reminder that it's entirely ok to celebrate food. it's ok to enjoy it, find pleasure in it, and talk about it. the other day i shared a really simple request - to please, for the sake of everyone everywhere, please stop talking about dieting at work. and a lot of you shared other places you'd like to extend that request to... it just goes to show how wide reaching this message is. a couple days later, someone texted me after they noticed a coworker's lunch and causally said "wow, that looks delicious!" they immediately thought of my post and wondered about whether that sort of talk was appropriate. the short answer: yes, yes it is. it's ok to share that something looks great, smells great, is your favorite, reminds you of a memory, whatever. it's ok to celebrate food. it would be diet culture to follow that statement with some qualifier about why that meal isn't right for you, or mention your low carb/low calorie/low whatever version of that food, but that's not what happened here. i'm celebrating caprese season, because capreses are delicious. food is meant to be enjoyed, talked about, honored. showing food gratitude and celebrating pleasurable, satisfying foods is one of the best ways you can reject diet culture. so, what do you need to help you disconnect food from moral value, and remove the comparisons and the shoulds? at Houston, Texas

I’m going to tell you a hypothetical story about hunger. Can you relate to this?? 👇🏼👇🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This applies to ALL genders, but for the sake of entertainment, lets call our character SUSAN (hi mom 👋🏼) 🗣 Susan works a very busy corporate job. She prides herself on overworking and spends all of her energy taking care of other people without making time for herself. 🍎 She heard from a friend that intermittent fasting helps with weight loss. Since she’s not hungry in the mornings anyway, she skips breakfast & opts for a large coffee. ☕️ 😴 Some days are great, but most days she needs a second coffee around 10:30 ☕️ to clear the brain fog and stay focused. She often finds it really hard to focus in the mornings. 😔 If you ask Susan, she would say she has a “bad” habit of snacking at the office and has no willpower. She frequently feels overwhelmed at lunch trying to pick a “healthy” option and then 🤒 ends up eating WAY past the point of fullness. 😴 By 3pm she’s absolutely drained and looking for another coffee ☕️ to get through the day. She wants to go to the gym 💪🏼 when she gets off work but by 5pm, she desperate to get home. Feeling defeated and ashamed, she says 🤬 “screw it” to eating healthy for the day and goes home to drink wine, 🍷 order take out, and binge in front of the TV. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🚫 Susan is CONVINCED that she has a food addiction issue. If she could just STOP EATING for one day maybe she could get this under control and change her life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✅ THE TRUTH IS... Susan actually isn’t eating enough food, which is why her body goes into autopilot snacking at the office and eating way past the point of fullness. 🤔 Her brain fog, low energy, lack of focus, and overwhelm are her HUNGER cues, and she cant stop thinking about food BECAUSE she spends most of the day ignoring hunger. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🎉 Thankfully, Susan said screw it to weight loss one day to just focus on her health for a bit. She decides to start eating breakfast with her coffee & bringing an afternoon snack. FORWARD. It was really important to me, in starting Pelvic Forward, that the company name reflect the values and vision that I want to create in the world. I chose forward to embody and describe the integration and acceptance of ourselves that I feel we are posed to create in our lives. ´fôrwerd/ 1.) toward the front; in the direction that one is facing or traveling. 2.) onward so as to make progress; toward a successful conclusion. 3.) into a position of prominence or notice. Forward has been on my mind and heart lately. I am listening to the powerful book “The Path Made Clear” by @oprah on the stellar recommendation of @katecarsonmiller. So much has made me reflective, tearful and made me laugh out loud. But the discussion with @anipemachodron really resonated. “My whole life I had that instinct of what is forward” . “And I never know where forward is these days. But somehow there is always forward. When you stopped being fixed, about how it has to be, who you have to be, you are more like a river than a rock” “it keeps moving forward” “that is natural” I want to make pelvic awareness natural. I want us to accept all parts of ourselves: our emotions, our anatomy, our failures…. Because without it we can’t be whole. I see One of my most important roles it to SEE this part of people….. I do that LITERALLY but that’s not what I mean… I normalize every part of people so they can be SEEN. This is a part of you. I see it. This affects you. I see it. There is no part that needs to be abandoned or ignored. I think bringing the downstairs upfront gets it back in line with the rest of us.
