The concert shell we designed for the @lyricopera brings a more intimate acoustic listening experience to the historic 3,500-seat Civic Opera House. Catch it in use at the Renée Fleming 25th Anniversary Concert & Gala this weekend! #studiogangpostoccupancy The design of the shell explores moments of continuity with its surroundings, encouraging an elegant transition between the space of the Opera House and the space of the stage. The shell consists of individual conic-shaped components with varying degrees of concavity and convexity that are easily and quickly assembled into modular elements, which can then be simply disassembled and stored. The same parts can be configured to accommodate a variety of performances, ranging from a soloist to a full orchestra and choir, ensuring the shell becomes a lasting element of the Lyric Opera repertoire. Modulating the surface quality of the wooden elements, with a greater variation of articulation near the top, results in a visually striking, technologically advanced form sculpted by sound. at Lyric Opera of Chicago

Update from the construction site of our @beloit_college #Powerhouse project, which transforms a former coal-burning power plant into a student union centered on recreation and wellness: "Our main floor, one floor up from street level, originally held the two 30 megawatt GE turbines and the massive boilers that made them spin. This turbine hall is intended to be the heart of our “great good place.” The floors are being filled in by our concrete team at CCI and will be side by side with the beautiful terra cotta tile installed in the 1940s. With a cafe, multipurpose rooms (with the original powerhouse dials and levers), and comfortable seating, we will achieve what the students, faculty, and staff who helped set out the purpose for the space were hoping for: comfortable, high quality space, that allows for authentic relationships to thrive. Our campus deserves this space -- and yes, the fact that we do have a Wisconsin winter each year, helps make the case for a warm, light-filled space." 📷 by Ziming Wu '20 #studiogangunderconstruction

Our first project in France (!) will be this new hub for scholarship and cultural exchange in Paris’ rapidly-developing 13th arrondissement. Made up of an academic center for @uchicago and a mixed-use residential building, the project will bring vitality to its neighborhood with biodiverse green spaces and an architecture that weaves the block—both physically and intellectually—into the fabric of the city. Our winning design with @icadeofficiel and @parcarchitectes was selected as part of an international competition run by the City of Paris and will be on display starting tomorrow @pavillonarsenal. at Pavillon de l'Arsenal

Please swipe through for more details of our design with @scape_studio for Tom Lee Park in Memphis! (1) Architecture and landscape work closely together to transform a flat, grassy field at the edge of the Mississippi River into a signature public park for Memphis where community life can flourish year-round, grounded in the river’s dynamic rhythms and local ecology. (2) The park’s 30 acres are laid out as a series of four distinct zones defined by topography, vegetation, pathways, and architecture. The landscape design of each zone is informed by different natural river formations or behaviors. (3) The architecture—which floats above the landscape like vessels on the water—is inspired by historical structures that once operated on the Memphis riverfront, from the terminal buildings to grain elevators and barges. (4) This project continues our work in Memphis, begun with our #MemphisRiverfrontConcept, a master plan for six miles of the Mississippi riverfront that was shaped through a series of community engagement workshops, meetings, interviews, and surveys. A public exhibit of the new Tom Lee Park model, renderings, and other materials is currently on display at Memphis' Beale Street Landing. #cometotheriver at Tom Lee Park

Announcing our first project in Boston! The @bostonglobe cover story describes “a flatiron-shaped tower…soaring nearly 300 feet above the square, with a spacious plaza at its base that replaces what is now largely asphalt… The building would be the tallest in Kenmore Square itself, part of a westward expansion of the city’s so-called High Spine that includes a potential 305-foot-high tower above the Massachusetts Turnpike near Fenway Park and the 378-foot-tall Pierce Boston condo tower nearby at Boylston Street and Brookline Avenue,” writes @bytimlogan. Full article linked in stories. at Kenmore, Boston, Massachusetts
