"It is hereby declared to be the policy of the Congress to secure for the American people of present and future generations the benefits of an enduring resource of wilderness." ----------------------------------- Today marks the 53rd anniversary of the #WildernessAct, signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964. The Act established the National Wilderness Preservation System and instructed federal land management agencies to manage wilderness areas and preserve wilderness character. Rocky Mountain Beeplants found in #GreatSandDunes are not only spectacular in late summer, but they have been an important part of traditional use and food for countless people in the area. Beeplants (Cleome serrulata) have many traditional uses for regional tribes and settlers including cooked and eaten alone or with cornmeal porridge, seeds from their pods eaten raw and dried as a snack, or ground into flour and used in making breads, and infusions of beeplant extract are used in the treatment of fever and stomach disorders to name a few! #FindYourPark #Parks101 #GreatSandDunesNPP #GreatSandDunes #nationalparks #wilderness #travel #beeplant #rockymountainbeeplant #wildflowers #grasslands #prairie #edibleplants #traditionalmedicine #food #Colorado #cleomeserrulata ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿฝ

No one visits #KobukValley National Park because itโ€™s easy! However, this remote park in Alaska north of the Arctic Circle rewards those intrepid enough to venture there. There are no developed facilities in Kobuk Valley, which is a discouragement for some, but an unequivocal temptation for those looking for true Alaskan wilderness.
