Im still processing the feeling of this afternoon running in a crowd away from "someone with a gun." I took this image of these abandoned belongings and fields as we left. so poignant. This was at #newtonathleticpark in surrey. At a large, kids #soccer tournament. There were hundreds of players on several different fields. We went to watch @masonjrbecks7 my 8 year old nephew play. 🙏🙏Everyone is safe no shots were fired and police aprehended someone with an airsoft rifle according to news.
But what stays with me are the kids terrified faces. The fear of going back on the field. Is this the new normal? So many parents today had to console their kids and ensure them, they were safe.
Im thankful this was not an actual event. But the panic was real. The fear very real as people yelled to get off the field and the word trickled in about why.
It also made me think about kids in the US going to school and doing shooter drills or those in war torn countries of the world that dont get rest from that feeling.
This was my first taste of that and hopefully my last. Hug those close to you. Thats what im doing today. If only to convince myself. It is all going to be fine.
