#Repost @ngphotocamp with @get_repost ・・・ Today was Portrait day at our Photo Camp with Yu’pik youth in Quinhagak, Alaska. Photographers Erika Larsen ( @erikalarsen888 )and Evgenia Arbugaeva inspired students to make these beautiful portraits of the elders in their community. They also interviewed grandparents and other elders about the changes that have occurred in this village since the older generation’s youth. The storytelling tradition in the Yu’pik community is very strong and has translated well into the storytelling tradition of Photo Camp. Photos by students: Mackenzie Forbes, Crystal Carter, Darryl Small Jr., Kaitlyn Henry, Marita Tunutmoak. @insidenatgeo

Antarctic Iceberg - January 2018 In honor of Earth Day, signed prints of Earth’s wildlife and wild places from @natgeocreative photographers are on sale now. Visit the link in my profile to see the full collection of images or to purchase this image. Sale ends at midnight on April 28th. A tabular iceberg seen at the 66.5 degrees south latitude in the Antarctic Peninsula. This iceberg, just south of the Lemaire Channel, could have been tens of thousands of years in the making starting as ambitious snowflakes that condenses into ice over time then flowing along glacial rivers of ice. Eventually they calve from a larger ice shelf and are classified by their shape. Increased calving as a result of shrinking winter sea ice upsets the seabed where the majority of all Antarctic life occurs. Some disturbances are needed to create a space for a diversity of organisms but some scientists believe that an increase in iceberg action may actually decrease biodiversity. at Antarctica
