REASONING - an informal gathering in which to engage in discussion about community affairs. Yesterday just before heading to my monthly fatherhood group facilitation work - we've been doing this 10 years plus & running - I stood outside in the rain REASONING with my loooooongtime friend & proud RAS ambassador Natty B, in our neighborhood, along Eglinton Ave. West, a strip rich with black business, history, arts, and real estate development potential, comparable to say Harlem (uptown) New York. Anyways, we had a nice conversation tied to the past, present and future of Eglinton Ave. West. For those not familiar, Eglinton is a hot spot for culture, and now real estate, given that the Eglinton Crosstown Line or the LRT owned by Metrolinx and operated by the Toronto Transit Commission will become a part of the Toronto subway system as its fifth route in 2021. New condo developments are popping up like daisies, while over 100+ mom and pop shops have closed down over the last few years - it's a bloodbath! So there is this weird simultaneous gentrification and colonization process happening too, where all kinds of parasitic outsiders who don't live in or near the neighborhood are weighing in on the neighborhood as experts without consulting or working alongside longtime residents. It's really weird. It's the equivalent of me writing a book about the The Danforth and its rich Greek culture despite not being Greek, not living on or near The Danforth, not spending any time there, or not consulting with the longtime residents and business owners. Anyways, if you get a chance, come take in some of Toronto's black history, music & culture - outside of February - on Eglinton Ave. West, and tell the shopkeepers that Usain Dalt aka Daltpak Chopra sent you. P.S. Large up our brother & artist Kirk Diamond & our sister Kelissa (in town from Jamaica) for blessing our hood with some sweet reggae music. #Toronto #CityLiving #EGLINTON #EglintonAve #EglintonWest #yongeandeglinton #urban #Eglintonavenuewest #The6 #The6ix #6ix #WeTheNorth #Gentrification #future #barbershops #reggae #dancehall #roots #rootsreggae #BlackExcellence #ras #rastafari #rasta #Blessings #Bless #Harlem at Eglinton Ave. West, Toronto

Global TV was really drippin' today as I got to share some thoughts about the N Word, pop culture & analytics alongside the uber talented director / rapper Sean Leon who played an integral role in his good friend Grammy Award-winning R&B singer Daniel Caesar's come up. If you want to be challenged, go stream Sean's music. If you want to remain bored, then go back to the trap. When two brothers from different generations can drop all kinds of challenging ideas & nuggets on TV it is truly blessed. Check back for air date, and on my FB too. Also, R.I.P Nipsey Hussle. We do these things for you. And for Tupac too. #toronto #TV #Television #TALKTV #globaltv #global #language #hiphop #hiphopmusic #rap #rapmusic #seanleon #TupacShakur #tupac #nipseyhussle #ripnipseyhussle #musicians #music #PopCulture #AAVE #vernacular #6ix #the6 #the6ix at Global Television Network

On Sunday, March 10th at Ryerson University I will be participating in this FANTASTIC event in honor of #iwd2019 that you need to check out; "Solidarity in Sound presents: For the Record", which is a creative ideation session centered around artist discovery. This event invites creative minds to join in a day-long (12-6pm) creative ideation session centered around how we consume and discover music. At the end of the day, pitches will be judged by myself and other industry leaders including Tao-Ming Lau (Blue Crane Agency), and LU KALA. The winning solution will be developed with the help of SIS. Winners will walk away with access to SIS resources plus awesome prizes. One team of five will win a grand prize valued at $500 . As the Artistic Director of the Black Arts & Innovation Expo, I can honestly say that I can NEVER EVER get tired of working 24-7 around the clock because its an absolute thrill & honor to get to showcase, feature & expose black excellence, across so many business sectors & artistic disciplines. Much love to Claudette our founder/SheEO, the rest of the Expo team (Karlyn, Jenelle, Kaena, Davia), our volunteers, and sponsors, all of the scholarship & award recipients, and all of the techies, visual artists, authors, musicians, entrepreneurs, that filled our space up with their brilliance. Our 5th Anniversary was too much fun, and incredibly educational for all involved. Also, much love to the panelists who answered my questions on-stage (pictured - L to R 📷 @trickeyphoto ) - CP24 reporter Brandon "Dutty Storm" Gonez, actor Femi "Tantalization" Lawson, choreographer Esie "Black Stars" Mensah, entrepreneur Kiana "Rookz" Eastmond and photographer Jamal "Jayscale" Burger - tied to defining and pursuing success in 2019. It's time to stop talking, and start doing - that's the motto. And always pay it forward. This morning on Breakfast TV we discussed the alleged sick, twisted publicity stunt carried out by Empire actor Jussie Smollett. After this fiasco I think that even the real life racists wearing MAGA hats are confused by this...they must be like "Jussie stole our thunder!" Is Jussie delusional, like many mega-famous celebrities tend to be, or as some actors become after spending copious amounts of time in a fictional world? Are there some untreated or undiagnosed mental health issues at play here? Or is Jussie just simply a chronic liar - he got arrested in 2007 for a DUI, and gave the police a fake name. Sadly, this failed publicity stunt happened in Chicago, where almost 3000 people got shot last year and no one seems to care. Victims of gun violence in Chicago don't get this much attention, and that's just plain depressing. Hate crimes are on the rise in both the US and Canada (in our home on Native land, hate crimes went up by almost 50% by 2018). So chew on that for a second. The fact that hate crime complaints might increasingly be met with skepticism is terrifying. #Toronto #TV #BreakfastTV #BT #JussieSmollett #Empire #Chicago #RacismIsNotajoke #Canada #Unitedstates #PR #publicrelations #publicity #publicist #DaltonHigginsPR

How many publicists does it take to screw in a lightbulb? I don't know, but it sure was fun conducting a Publicity 101 boot camp today with a bunch of fellow publicists in this city, for Canadian Independent Music Association members. I spoke to some of my areas of expertise (festivals, hip hop, R&B/soul, electronic, etc) while I heard how my fellow publicists navigate the rock, country, folk, punk worlds. Thanks for putting this together CIMA + Work In Culture, twas lotsa fun! #Toronto #Music #WorkInCulture #MusicIndustry #MusicBiz #Festival #Athletics #Musicbusiness #PR #Publicrelations #Publicity #Publicist #DaltonHigginsPR at Arraymusic
