We’re very excited to introduce Elsie. Elsie is an older rescue hen (we think she’s about 3 years old) who has come to live with Dolly. After keeping a close eye on Dolly we realised that she needed a full time companion. She was fine while she was with us, but had started spending her whole day on the patio, just waiting for one of us to appear. And she needed to be doing chickeny stuff. So through some very kind contacts at we found Elsie. She was near the bottom of the pecking order in her old flock, and has settled happily into a more peaceful situation. She’s got some weight to put on to catch up with Dolly, but she’s very bright and has already learned where the food is kept.
Dolly was frankly appalled and incredulous when we turned up with Elsie, but integration literally only took a couple of hours of supervised free range. They’re sleeping separately for the time being, as Dolly can be a little boisterous, and Elsie likes to go to bed a long time before Dolly. I don’t think it’ll be long until they’re together all the time. Elsie has only been with us since Saturday but she’s already part of the family. - Cool photo!
