Molly’s Cabin, designed by @agathom_co#cabinlove#canada

Rugged coasts with high cliffs and pebble strewn beaches, no wonder this misty and magical region is home to so many fairytale huts and homes. Hand built on the island of Madeira, off the northwest coast of Africa, this image was taken by @theolator and is about as beautiful and Grimm-like as they come. #cabinlove#madeira at Madeira
What’s a “cabin” for you? I get asked this a lot and I always seem to swirl around various thoughts of the same: for me, it’s about the idea of a cabin, not so much the structure — I’m quick to count treehouses, huts, shacks, and whatever else — so long as it has that something we seem to crave. Be it story, a place away, time together, expanse... So it got me wondering, what makes a cabin for you?

I’ve been dreaming up a shack of sorts lately and the only thing I have for sure landed on is the need for glass and wood and stone. And water, absolutely water. Hopefully still? Finding this inspiration by @isabellath of @manshausen_island in Norway makes me hope to visit one day. Partly because it’s beautiful, partly because my grandmother (whom I never got the chance to meet) was from there and it’s always special to walk where she once did. “His house was perfect, whether you liked food, or sleep, or work, or story-telling, or singing, or just sitting and thinking, best, or a pleasant mixture of them all.” - JRR Tolkien. — All sorts of love for the shacks and huts and cabins round, above ground and below.
